SUMMARY:Mike Wilkinson will be discussing his novel Ollie\, Ollie\, Oxen Free
DESCRIPTION:Ollie\, Ollie\, Oxen Free is a Coming of Age story as well as a Romance. \nThe central figure\, Matt Turner\, uncertain of himself\, seeks standing and success by pursuing ordination to the Catholic priesthood\, only to discover that he is in error and that no role assures one of self fulfillment unless we are where we should be. Matt encounters Carol\, a young woman on her own search. Carol\, while having much to face on her own journey\, becomes Matt’s guide and loving companion while they face numerous challenges including danger from a former partner. \nThe story in its largest frame\, also considers the elements and themes of Homer’s The Odyssey: the struggle to get home or to the place one is truly meant to be. \nThe author spent much of his life in various cities of the Pacific Northwest\, growing up in Seattle and attending college at Gonzaga University in Spokane. Wilkinson taught most every aspect of high school English in Missoula\, Spokane\, Portland and Tacoma where he taught in Jesuit high schools for nearly forty years. He directed high school and community theatre throughout that time and beyond and has appeared in numerous plays and musicals. \nWilkinson has penned and directed two plays. He written numerous short pieces of fiction. This is his first novel. \nMonday October 21st 7:00 to 8:00

SUMMARY:Time for Change: Revolutionizing Volunteer Programs by RJ Wright
DESCRIPTION:An enlightening 90-minute seminar on “Time for Change\,” an innovative volunteer program concept grounded in the co-production principles championed by Edgar Cahn. \nThis session will delve into the transformative potential within our communities\, presenting a vision where nonprofits harness untapped resources to create a surplus of volunteers. Inspired by the belief that every individual has inherent value beyond market metrics\, this model reimagines the role of community members. \nDiscover how shifting from a market-defined value system to one that embraces mutual benefit can revolutionize volunteerism\, empowering individuals and strengthening nonprofits. Learn how this approach can lead to unprecedented community engagement and resource optimization\, paving the way for a more resilient\, interconnected\, and thriving community. \nAbout RJ Wright: My life’s narrative is deeply intertwined with the values championed by Edgar Cahn\, advocating for a Core Economy that treasures the invaluable – raising children\, uniting families\, caring for the elderly\, rebuilding communities\, and nurturing our planet. Enduring personal trials within a family affected by addiction and the heartache of loss have propelled me towards a resolute mission: to revive our community’s heart where the market economy has overlooked its pulse. \nPioneering as my family’s first college graduate\, my 20-plus-year career is distinguished by transformative leadership\, nationally recognized achievements in sales performance\, and organizational development. My journey has been shaped by extensive experience in various leadership and development roles\, including coaching and business development. With a rich background in nonprofit advancement strategy and a passion for community development\, I am the founder of The Wright Motivation. \nThe Wright Motivation’s purpose is to equip nonprofits with the tools and guidance that will empower a transition from survival to thriving by revealing they are business entities capable of strategic growth. I dream of a world where we are all partners in building communities that flourish through the strength of human connection. If we are all a part of the puzzle that means we all have a piece to the solution. Presenter’s Website: https://www.thewrightmotivation.com. \nFREE ADMISSION – 1757 Ashland St.\, Ashland\, OR. SUMMARY:Katie Pruitt and Drumming Bird presented by the Ashland Folk Collective
DESCRIPTION:Katie Pruitt is a singer/songwriter and guitarist whose music demonstrates the transformative power of personal storytelling. Growing up queer in the Christian South\, she has garnered acclaim for her deeply introspective lyrics and empathetic approach to songwriting. Pruitt’s work has been praised for its dynamic presence and patient\, determined navigation of serious subjects. Her music often reflects a journey of self-exploration and self-compassion\, aiming to resonate with listeners by addressing themes of identity\, acceptance\, and hope. \nDrumming Bird \nDrumming Bird is the main vehicle of singer-songwriter Austin Sawyer. Sawyer has been writing and performing music as Drumming Bird for over a decade\, meticulously crafting a sound that lies somewhere between the youthful noise of indie-rock and the poignant working-class introspection of Americana. Drumming Bird’s forthcoming record\, Roadkill Poetry\, was produced by Oscar-nominated songwriter Mike Viola (Panic! At The Disco\, Andrew Bird\, Jenny Lewis)\, with Griffin Goldsmith (Dawes)\, Sebastian Steinberg (Fiona Apple\, Iron & Wine\, Soul Coughing) and Viola as the backing band. \nDoors 6:00pm | Show 7:00-10:00pm \n$25 online $30 at the door \nNo food or alcohol inside the venue. \nKatie Pruitt
