DESCRIPTION:Southern Oregon University’s Schneider Museum of Art (SMA) is thrilled to announce its summer exhibition\, “PACING: Photographs by Dru Donovan\, Melanie Flood\, and Tarrah Krajnak.” \nThe exhibition will open at 5 p.m. on Thursday\, June 13\, and will be on view through August 10\, 2024. \nAbout the Exhibition: \nThe act of pacing involves moving forward in a measured\, rhythmic manner\, where each step is taken in consideration of the one before it. “PACING” explores this duality of ease and tension through the lens-based works of three midcareer\, female-identifying photographers: Dru Donovan\, Melanie Flood\, and Tarrah Krajnak. Each artist employs performative methods to document their bodies and those of others\, reflecting on their relationships to social histories\, expectations\, and structures. \nMeet the Artists: \nMelanie Flood has used the camera as a tool for self-expression throughout her life. Her photographs\, spanning from childhood to the present\, explore her evolving femininity and critique gender constructs through a blend of vulnerability and playful experimentation. \nTarrah Krajnak reclaims the photographic medium’s masculine history through her Indigenous transracial adoptee experience. DESCRIPTION:There will be a ceremony to celebrate the life of Rick Bevel on Tuesday\, June 18th from 6 to 8 pm at Triangle Park in Ashland. \nRick Bevel\, 68 years old\, long struggled with homelessness and died in late April\, about a month after he was discharged from the intensive care unit in Portland where he had been treated for burns sustained during an altercation in January at the city of Ashland’s dusk-to-dawn sleeping area. \nFriends of Rick are invited to bring memories\, photos and stories. DESCRIPTION:Southern Oregon University’s Schneider Museum of Art (SMA) is thrilled to announce its summer exhibition\, “PACING: Photographs by Dru Donovan\, Melanie Flood\, and Tarrah Krajnak.” \nThe exhibition will open at 5 p.m. on Thursday\, June 13\, and will be on view through August 10\, 2024. \nAbout the Exhibition: \nThe act of pacing involves moving forward in a measured\, rhythmic manner\, where each step is taken in consideration of the one before it. “PACING” explores this duality of ease and tension through the lens-based works of three midcareer\, female-identifying photographers: Dru Donovan\, Melanie Flood\, and Tarrah Krajnak. Each artist employs performative methods to document their bodies and those of others\, reflecting on their relationships to social histories\, expectations\, and structures. \nMeet the Artists: \nMelanie Flood has used the camera as a tool for self-expression throughout her life. Her photographs\, spanning from childhood to the present\, explore her evolving femininity and critique gender constructs through a blend of vulnerability and playful experimentation. \nTarrah Krajnak reclaims the photographic medium’s masculine history through her Indigenous transracial adoptee experience. DESCRIPTION:Rogue Bonsai Group\, in collaboration with Ashland Parks and Recreation Commission (APRC)\, presents Bonsai Day\, a celebration of nature through the art of Bonsai and Ikebana\, at the Ashland Japanese Garden from 10:00am to 2:00pm on Saturday\, June 22nd\, 2024. \nThe event will feature a collection of Rogue Bonsai Group’s finest trees for visitors to enjoy. Live demonstrations of pruning and shaping techniques will be going on throughout the day. Highlights will be Forest style Bonsai arrangements as well as a wide range of conifer and deciduous trees. The Trees exhibited are selected to provide visitors with educational opportunities through a variety of bonsai styles\, species\, and history. Some trees have impressive lineage and others began as a bush in someone’s back yard. Bonsai can be found everywhere! \n“Ikebana” displays by the local Ikebana enthusiasts\, will also be available for viewing. “Ikebana (Kado)” is a traditional Japanese art of flower arranging. It said that floral arrangement is an aesthetic of addition\, and Ikebana is an aesthetic of subtraction. Visitors can enjoy the beauty of balance which “Ikebana” exhibits. \nVisitors are encouraged to ask questions\, watch the live demonstrations\, and learn more about Ikebana and Bonsai as living sculpture art practices.
