SUMMARY:Rogue Valley Men’s Circle Fire Ceremony
DESCRIPTION:Weekly: A weekly Men’s Circle Fire Ceremony on Monday nights from 6:30-8:30 pm around the fire at the Island Fire Pit in scenic Lithia Park in Ashland\, Oregon. \nWhat could be more natural than gathering around the fire and talking about the challenges of being a man and/or assuming masculine roles in our current culture? \nCeremony: This Men’s Circle is conducted as a shamanic ceremony to establish connection and community. It is compatible with any religious and spiritual beliefs. We offer intentions\, smudge with sage\, and release things into the fire. A weekly theme such as “confidence” or “purpose” is introduced. \nTalking Stick and Fire Ceremony: A talking stick is passed to speak your truth on this topic and things coming up in your life. The Men’s Circle will be conducted as a fire ceremony as long as we are allowed to build fires this year. After this time\, a new form of ceremony will be considered to continue the Men’s Circle. \nInclusive: This ceremony is for anyone looking to awaken and integrate dynamic masculine energy and roles. This includes all gender identities and sexual orientations. \nDrug and alcohol-free: This form of ceremony does not utilize plant medicine or psychedelics. Please do not be under the influence of any drugs or alcohol during this ceremony. \nAge: This ceremony is for ages 18 and older. \nFacilitator: This ceremony is conducted by Michael Hoffman\, LCSW. He is a licensed psychotherapist and spiritual coach. He trained with a spiritual teacher/shaman for 22 years and offered psychotherapy and relationship counseling for the past 28 years. Michael’s role and responsibility as the facilitator is to ensure that the ceremony is emotionally safe. Judgment and criticism will be stopped. He will also encourage you to venture deeper into your dynamic masculine energy. \nDirections: The ceremony is at the Island Fire Pit in Ashland’s scenic Lithia Park. It is just south (away from downtown) of the Parks Office between the Cotton Memorial and Hillside on a small island in Ashland Creek. There is a parking area off Granite St. \nYou can just show up or register at https://www.naturalwayofbeing.com/rogue-valley-men’s-circle-ceremony. You can also get more information on this webpage. \nCost: The suggested donation is $15 per circle. You can pay at the ceremony with cash or Venmo. You can pay online with a credit card\, debit card\, or HSA credit card by registering at the above web address. \nQuestions: Feel free to call Michael Hoffman at 541-639-6246 with questions or concerns. Hope to see you there!

SUMMARY:Nina St Pierre discusses her memoir – Love is a Burning Thing
DESCRIPTION:A riveting memoir about a daughter’s investigation into the wirings of her loving\, unpredictable mother: a woman who lived her life in pursuit of the divine\, and who started two big fires\, decades apart. \nTen years before Nina was born\, her mother lit herself on fire in a dual suicide attempt. During her recovery in the burn-unit\, a nurse initiated her into Transcendental Meditation. From that day on\, her mother’s pain became intertwined with the pursuit of enlightenment. \nGrowing up\, Nina longed for a normal life; instead\, she and her brother were at the whims of their mother\, who chased ascension up and down the state of California\, swapping out spiritual practices as often as apartments. When they finally settled at the foot of a mountain–reputed to be cosmic–in Northern California\, Nina hoped life would stabilize. But after another fire\, and a tragic fallout\, she was forced to confront the shadow side of her mother’s mystical narratives. With obsessive dedication\, Nina began to knit together the truth that would eventually release her. \nIn Love Is a Burning Thing\, Nina interrogates what happens to those undiagnosed and unseen. This is a transfixing\, moving portrait of a mother-daughter relationship that also examines mental health\, stigma\, poverty\, and gender–and the role that spirituality plays within each. Nina’s writing skirts the mystical\, untangles it\, and ultimately illuminates it with brilliance.

SUMMARY:A Bee C’s of Pollinators
DESCRIPTION:Join JCLS and the Jackson County Master Gardeners to learn more about pollinators! This virtual presentation by Master Gardener will cover information about the incredible creatures that do so much for this planet and how to create an attractive\, sustainable\, and connected landscape for our native pollinators\, especially the bees. \nKristina moved to the Rogue Valley in 2012 and immediately became enamored with the region’s flora and fauna\, especially our pollinators. At the same time\, she began learning about the unprecedented decline of all pollinators and the associated implications for our food system and ecosystem. She and her husband turned their barren property in Ashland into a pollinator garden\, with many native plants and trees — but of course it’s never finished. Kristina loves talking about our native bees\, butterflies\, flies\, wasps\, beetles\, and hummingbirds\,  and connecting people to her dream that everyone’s yard or landscape will include a little or a lot of pollinator habitat\, even if it’s just a corner filled with California poppies. She is passionate about growing\, sharing\, and planting the native annuals\, perennials\, shrubs\, and trees that create the habitats that best support our region’s native pollinators\, and thus\, all the creatures that depend upon them. \nKristina led the effort for Ashland to become the fifth Bee City USA in 2015\, and continues to serve on the subcommittee. She also serves on the board of Beyond Toxics\, and is a member of the Native Plant Society of Oregon\, Siskiyou Chapter. Kristina is honored to serve as president and volunteer director of Pollinator Project Rogue Valley.
