SUMMARY:Rogue Valley Men’s Circle Fire Ceremony
DESCRIPTION:Weekly: A weekly Men’s Circle Fire Ceremony on Monday nights from 6:30-8:30 pm around the fire at the Island Fire Pit in scenic Lithia Park in Ashland\, Oregon. \nWhat could be more natural than gathering around the fire and talking about the challenges of being a man and/or assuming masculine roles in our current culture? \nCeremony: This Men’s Circle is conducted as a shamanic ceremony to establish connection and community. It is compatible with any religious and spiritual beliefs. We offer intentions\, smudge with sage\, and release things into the fire. A weekly theme such as “confidence” or “purpose” is introduced. \nTalking Stick and Fire Ceremony: A talking stick is passed to speak your truth on this topic and things coming up in your life. The Men’s Circle will be conducted as a fire ceremony as long as we are allowed to build fires this year. After this time\, a new form of ceremony will be considered to continue the Men’s Circle. \nInclusive: This ceremony is for anyone looking to awaken and integrate dynamic masculine energy and roles. This includes all gender identities and sexual orientations. \nDrug and alcohol-free: This form of ceremony does not utilize plant medicine or psychedelics. Please do not be under the influence of any drugs or alcohol during this ceremony. \nAge: This ceremony is for ages 18 and older. \nFacilitator: This ceremony is conducted by Michael Hoffman\, LCSW. He is a licensed psychotherapist and spiritual coach. He trained with a spiritual teacher/shaman for 22 years and offered psychotherapy and relationship counseling for the past 28 years. Michael’s role and responsibility as the facilitator is to ensure that the ceremony is emotionally safe. Judgment and criticism will be stopped. He will also encourage you to venture deeper into your dynamic masculine energy. \nDirections: The ceremony is at the Island Fire Pit in Ashland’s scenic Lithia Park. It is just south (away from downtown) of the Parks Office between the Cotton Memorial and Hillside on a small island in Ashland Creek. There is a parking area off Granite St. \nYou can just show up or register at https://www.naturalwayofbeing.com/rogue-valley-men’s-circle-ceremony. You can also get more information on this webpage. \nCost: The suggested donation is $15 per circle. You can pay at the ceremony with cash or Venmo. You can pay online with a credit card\, debit card\, or HSA credit card by registering at the above web address. \nQuestions: Feel free to call Michael Hoffman at 541-639-6246 with questions or concerns. Hope to see you there!

SUMMARY:Wendy Williams discusses her memoir Autobiography of a Sea Creature: Healing the Trauma of Infant Surgery
DESCRIPTION:Operated on as an infant\, without anesthesia\, Wendy began life at war with her body. There were tubes everywhere\, in and out of every opening\, her mother reminded her on every anniversary of her surgery. \nAutobiography of a Sea Creature: Healing the Trauma of Infant Surgery takes readers on Williams’ difficult sensory journey toward healing as she communes along the way with horseshoe crabs\, dolphins\, and other marine life that taught her the restorative power of beauty\, resilience\, and interdependence. At times luscious and lyrical\, at other times analytical and reflective\, this literary memoir portrays the dissociative experience of trauma and the roots of self-destructive cycles as well as the tragic results of medical beliefs at the time that infants could not feel pain. Autobiography of a Sea Creature is both a love letter to the earth and a hopeful testament of humans’ capacity to heal our deepest wounds. \nWendy will be introducing the book\, giving background about why she wrote it. She will read excerpts and after each one\, she will discuss the issues it brings up and give background information on the medical practices back in the 1950s. She will discuss more about the consequences of infant surgery without anesthesia in today’s society.

SUMMARY:Belonging to the World: Remembering Our Place and Bringing Forth Our Gifts by Alexis Alma
DESCRIPTION:Lexi will speak about the roots of “Constellation Work”; the principles and practices related to hierarchies\, natural laws and orders in systems\, and how African Spirituality is the underlayment for this modality for personal and collective evolution. During the interactive part of the evening we will experience grounded practices celebrating and illuminating our human goodness and interconnectedness. \nWith over 2000 years of living inside of the upside-down belief that the world belongs to us\, here we are; uncertain how to find\, create\, repair the better\, truer world we long for. Most of us are living with at least some daily sense of hopelessness\, despair\, uncertainty. Collectively\, we are wondering where we belong and who we are with. These are some of the critical questions of our times\, along with “How do we serve” and “What are our gifts”? \nIn this interactive evening\, we will dive deeply into answering these core questions for ourselves via repairing our sense of belonging and working with the obscurations to this inherent knowing of our place in the family of things. \nOur tools will be the safe and potent group field we will co-create\, and Constellation Work\, a powerful somatic practice based in African Tradition and Spirituality that uses the power of community\, ceremony and the interconnected web of life we all share to shift our attention from trauma to gifts\, from despair to possibility. \nThe world does not belong to us…we belong to it. We will remember this in our bones and walk back into our lives rejuvenated and ready to act. If you are here\, you are needed\, your place matters. In this Great Turning\, it is our job to re-turn; to ourselves\, each other\, the world we belong to. \nLexi Alma is a dynamic teacher\, devoted community builder\, and a mother\, teacher\, and land steward on a blossoming resilient ecosystems farm in Ashland\, Oregon. Lexi has degrees in Education\, Counseling Psychology and Group Facilitation\, and has completed certifications with expert teachers and leaders in the fields of trauma\, neuroscience\, somatics\, and has deeply studied the interface between science and spirituality. She has worked in public and private sectors in both education and mental health. \nLexi works with holistic and community-centric practices she calls Sacred Science*: Medicinal Storytelling\, Somatic Integration\, Ancestral Imprints (epigenetics)\, mindfulness and meditation practices\, and Systemic Family Constellation Work. This powerful work teaches necessary tools for taking on one’s own transformation from inside the safe and sacred container of community. Alexis works directly with the brain so new neural pathways are built—this sustains positive and lasting change. Her laser sharp focus provides accurate reflection and input that will rapidly propel you forward to the place you long to arrive-home to yourself\, home in community and anchored in belonging. \nLexi dedicates her life to supporting humanity’s rapid evolution in these incredible times of change. SUMMARY:Windows in Time: A Century in Big Applegate
DESCRIPTION:In the second half of the 19th century\, a group of Indigenous women survived the 1868-69 smallpox epidemic and avoided removal to reservations more than once. \nThese women and their white husbands eventually left the mining camps on Kanaka Gulch and Forest Creek for the lush valley of Big Applegate\, as interracial couples were often not accepted in Jacksonville. Presenter Laura Ahearn will share the surprising stories of these women\, their descendants\, and others who joined the vibrant community that became known as Watkins before it was destroyed in the 1970s to build the Applegate Dam. These stories are based on the photo albums and family lore of descendants who still live in Jackson and Shasta Counties\, corroborated and sometimes corrected by intensive research into governmental records and newspaper archives. \nLight refreshments will be served. \nPresenter Laura Ahearn moved to the Applegate Valley in 2017 after a career in environmental law and seventeen years traveling the world in a sailboat. She is President of McKee Bridge Historical Society\, researcher/writer for the Society’s Facebook page\, curator of the Virtual Museum at www.mckeebridge.org\, and a frequent author for local newsmagazines. \nThe monthly Windows in Time lunchtime lectures feature well-known writers and historians and bring alive the people\, values\, and events that shaped our southern Oregon heritage. Lectures are jointly sponsored by the Southern Oregon Historical Society (SOHS) and Jackson County Library Services. Programs are presented in Medford (first Wednesdays\, in-person and online) and again in Ashland (second Wednesdays\, in-person). Recordings of Medford presentations are available on the JCLS Beyond YouTube channel.
