SUMMARY:John Brennan talks about his new book "Brain Shift"
DESCRIPTION:If I\, a military engineer\, can transmute to become a shamanic practitioner\, so can you. Follow my transformational process as Nature and Native American ceremony awoke my true self. It seems as if the helping spirits placed stepping stones in front of me. Every time I took one step and learned something they placed another stone in front of me. \nWe all have skills hidden by modern western cultural norms which you can find within yourself through shamanic journeying. Get answers to life’s questions through divination\, heal your own self through soul retrieval\, communicate with ancestors in journeys\, erase negative energies through ceremonies. \nAct when an opportunity is presented. Find out what makes you come fully alive. Do that. The world needs people who have come fully alive. \nHeld 7 to 8 p.m. Monday\, Jan. 29.

SUMMARY:What's at Stake
DESCRIPTION:Southern Oregon University’s Schneider Museum of Art (SMA) reopens at 5 p.m. Thursday\, Jan. 11\, 2024\, with a new exhibition\, “What’s at Stake.” \nCurated by Catharine Clark\, owner and founding director of Catharine Clark Gallery in San Francisco\, this exhibition will feature artists Zeina Barakeh\, Al Farrow\, and Masami Teraoka. This compelling exhibition explores the urgent issues of our time\, delving into the mechanisms of war and colonialism while interrogating the unpredictability and legitimacy of armed conflict. It will be on view through March 23\, 2024. \n“What’s at Stake” sheds light on the devastating impacts of war\, human rights violations\, and environmental collapse\, compelling viewers to pause and reflect on our collective responsibility to one another. The exhibition raises essential questions about the consequences when violence goes unchecked and challenges us to consider what is truly at stake in a world grappling with these pressing issues. \nSMA Executive Director Scott Malbaurn shared\, “During a recent trip to San Francisco with museum members\, we visited solo exhibitions at Catharine Clark Gallery featuring Masami Teraoka\, Al Farrow\, and Zeina Barakeh. Recognizing the common theme of exploring the impact of war\, especially for artists raised in wartime milieus like Teraoka and Barakeh alongside the sculpture of Al Farrow\, which are assembled with war time munitions\, we decided to present these shows collectively as “What’s at Stake.” This group exhibition becomes a poignant question and statement\, resonating with contemporary violent events that seem to be happening all of the time globally.” \nAn opening reception will take place 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday\, Jan. 11. Curator Catharine Clark and select artists will be in attendance. The opening reception is free and open to the public; complimentary wine and hors d’oeuvres will be provided. The Museum will be closed on Saturday\, Jan. 13 for a private event. \nNew Masterworks on Loan and Highlights from the Permanent Collection will also be on view in the Entry Gallery. Museum hours will be Tuesday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is always free\, but a $5 donation is suggested. \nWhat:\nSchneider Museum of Art presents: “What’s at Stake \nFree\, and open to the public. Cheryl’s songs have been covered by artists as diverse as Dan Seals\, Peter Paul & Mary\, Kenny Loggins\, Garth Brooks\, Suzy Bogguss\, Melanie\, Bette Midler\, Maura O’Connell\, Sylvia\, Kathy Mattea\, and Holly Near. \nFrom her albums you can tell that she is a gifted songwriter with a beautiful voice. From other people’s comments about her\, you learn that she is a natural storyteller with a fantastic sense of humor. But until you see her in person\, you never really believe what you’ve been told about her. Interestingly enough\, almost half of the songs she performs during her shows have never been recorded! \nHer funny stories between songs reveal her talent for diversity. Each time she tells a story\, it will be a little bit different\, so even if you’ve heard it before\, you still find yourself laughing. \nKenny White comes to the world of the touring singer-songwriter following a long and successful musical journey. “Long List of Priors\,” his aptly named new album\, is the latest collection of original songs: snapshots of the human condition\, from heartwarming to humorous. Radio favorites are “Cyberspace” and “A Road Less Traveled\,” featuring David Crosby on harmony vocals. \nBorn in New York City and raised across the river in Fort Lee\, NJ\, Kenny White began his career in the 1970s\, touring exclusively as the keyboard player for Jonathan Edwards\, and then with Livingston Taylor\, with whom he opened Linda Ronstadt’s legendary Living in the USA tour. He soon became a fixture in the NYC studio scene throughout the 1980s and 1990s\, producing and arranging literally hundreds of commercials for TV and radio\, beginning with The Unsinkable Taste of Cheerios\, nearly seven years of Chevrolet’s Heartbeat of America campaign\, and countless ads for Coca Cola. Commercial work enabled White to direct artists as renowned and varied as Gladys Knight\, Mavis Staples\, Ricky Skaggs\, and Aaron Neville. White worked on many film soundtracks as a contributing writer/musician\, including “Message in a Bottle\,” “Where the Heart Is” and four films by Indie-director laureate\, John Sayles. Kenny also appears on dozens of recordings of other musicians\, including Marc Cohn’s platinum debut. \n  \n“Kenny has earned a place among my favorite singer/songwriters. A true wordsmith and musician who reveals a fine sense of humor as well.” – David Crosby \nCheryl Wheeler is a “ Rare artist…strong poetry\, complex melodies\, clever wit.” – SingOut!

SUMMARY:Lama Sundays – Calm Abiding Meditation
DESCRIPTION:This meditation is common to many traditions of Buddhism. In this practice\, we rest our attention on a simple meditative support\, such as the breath. Instead of following thoughts and emotions as we usually do\, we release them and maintain our connection to the support. \n“From this practice\, we can experience a stable and calm mind. We learn to maintain and return to a sense of stillness\, no matter what our outer circumstances. The mind is relaxed\, alert and aware. The results of this practice are serenity\, freedom in the face of circumstances\, and ultimately Buddhahood.” From Meditation for Beginners\, by Bokar Rinpoche \nJoin in-person or via Zoom (hybrid). Please contact the office to receive our monthly emails and the Zoom link for this practice: OFFICE@KSCASHLAND.ORG \nHeld 9 to 11:30 a.m. Sunday\, Feb. 4\, March 10\, and April 7.
