SUMMARY:ACCESS Senior Fair
DESCRIPTION:The 2023 ACCESS Senior Fair will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday\, April 4\, at the Medford Armory\, 1701 S. Pacific Highway. \nThis will be a great opportunity to connect again in person while sharing needed resources with our seniors\, their families\, and each other. We have a broad selection of vendors who will offer an information-based resource fair for seniors\, their families and others who provide care and services to this population. There is no cost to attend. \nLive music will be provided by Rockafairy\, an emerging non-profit with a desire to connect more with our local senior population. Primarily this will be solo singer/songwriters with a focus on older music\, but we hope there will be one trio including a stand-up base. \nNot only will we have a bingo room with local celebrity callers from Newswatch Channel 12\, but we will also have a bingo game for attendees to increase engagement with vendors. Upon entry attendees will receive a double-sided sheet with vendor business names and a blackout bingo offering.

SUMMARY:Liminal Osteopathy: Visioning the Future of Health & Wellness with Dr. Joshua Goodrum
DESCRIPTION:The Rogue Valley Metaphysical Library Tuesday Lecture Series \nOsteopathic medicine is a philosophy and practice of physician care in the United States\, distinct in its whole-person approach and pioneering in its conceptualization of “wellness.” With a focus on preventive health care\, osteopathic medicine helps patients develop attitudes and lifestyles that don’t just fight illness\, but help prevent it\, too. \nIn this lecture\, Dr. Joshua Goodrum will review the origins\, philosophy and history of Osteopathic Medicine\, how Osteopathy has evolved (devolved) over the years and a vision for the future of health and wellness through the lens of his practice: Liminal Osteopathy. \nDr. Joshua Goodrum’s unique and diverse background includes years of experience in eastern and western medicine\, personal growth and development\, plant medicine\, and meditation practice\, With a deep devotion to healing\, his passion is to inspire others to awaken their own inherent ability to heal themselves. Dr. Goodrum currently resides in Ashland\, Oregon.\nOriginally from Western Pennsylvania\, he completed both his undergraduate degree in Biology and Doctorate of Osteopathic Medicine there. In Upstate New York\, he completed his training in a double residency in Family Medicine and Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine. At the same time\, he completed training in Medical Acupuncture with the Helms Medical Institute. He then moved back to Pennsylvania and was the co-owner of a successful medical practice for 10 years\, treating patients in the office\, hospital\, and nursing home. \nInspired to help those suffering from the opioid epidemic\, he pursued a fellowship in Addiction Medicine and became the medical director of two addiction treatment facilities. Through this entire journey\, he realized certain shortcomings of western medicine and decided to pursue several other alternative thought and healing modalities such as becoming a plant medicine facilitator\, working directly with Wim Hof and becoming one of the first instructors in the US\, working directly with Bob Proctor\, becoming a Thinking Into Results facilitator and completing advanced trainings with Dr. Joe Dispenza.

SUMMARY:Public meeting on local "climate-friendly" areas
DESCRIPTION:What if there were fewer barriers for local developers who want to build housing that could significantly reduce residents’ need to drive to meet daily needs? \nIt’s an idea officials from three Rogue Valley cities\, including Ashland and Talent\, will discuss at an upcoming public meeting\, held 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday\, April 13\, at the Talent Community Center\, 104 E. Main St.\, according to news release. Representatives from Medford will also attend. \nThe meeting will include a presentation on proposed areas for “traditional\, more walkable development types\,” the release said. Such developments would provide more housing and transportation choices for area residents and be in line with Oregon’s carbon footprint reduction goals. Residents living in such “climate-friendly” areas would be able to meet most of their daily needs — as they relate to work and access to businesses and services — without driving. \n“The Climate Friendly Areas process also seeks to center voices of underserved populations and to work towards equitable outcomes\,” the release said. \nActivities for children and refreshments will also be provided. Spanish interpretation is available for anyone who contacts their local city staff to request it. \nStarting April 14\, online surveys will also be available on each city’s project websites: \nAshland: https://www.ashland.or.us/climatefriendly \nTalent: https://www.cityoftalent.org/news.asp \nMedford: https://www.medfordoregon.gov/Government/Departments/Planning/PlanningProjects \nVisit https://www.oregon.gov/lcd/CL/Pages/CFEC.aspx for more information on climate-friendly communities.
