SUMMARY:Mike Wilkinson will be discussing his novel Ollie\, Ollie\, Oxen Free
DESCRIPTION:Ollie\, Ollie\, Oxen Free is a Coming of Age story as well as a Romance. \nThe central figure\, Matt Turner\, uncertain of himself\, seeks standing and success by pursuing ordination to the Catholic priesthood\, only to discover that he is in error and that no role assures one of self fulfillment unless we are where we should be. \nMatt encounters Carol\, a young woman on her own search. Carol\, while having much to face on her own journey\, becomes Matt’s guide and loving companion while they face numerous challenges\, including danger from a former partner. The story\, in its largest frame\, also considers the elements and themes of Homer’s The Odyssey: the struggle to get home or to the place one is truly meant to be. \nThe author spent much of his life in various cities of the Pacific Northwest\, growing up in Seattle and attending college at Gonzaga University in Spokane. Wilkinson taught most every aspect of high school English in Missoula\, Spokane\, Portland and Tacoma where he taught in Jesuit high schools for nearly forty years. He directed high school and community theatre throughout that time and beyond\, and has appeared in numerous plays and musicals. \nWilkinson has penned and directed two plays. He written numerous short pieces of fiction. This is his first novel.

SUMMARY:PACING: Photographs by Dru Donovan\, Melanie Flood\, and Tarrah Krajnak
DESCRIPTION:Southern Oregon University’s Schneider Museum of Art (SMA) is thrilled to announce its summer exhibition\, “PACING: Photographs by Dru Donovan\, Melanie Flood\, and Tarrah Krajnak.” \nThe exhibition will open at 5 p.m. on Thursday\, June 13\, and will be on view through August 10\, 2024. \nAbout the Exhibition: \nThe act of pacing involves moving forward in a measured\, rhythmic manner\, where each step is taken in consideration of the one before it. “PACING” explores this duality of ease and tension through the lens-based works of three midcareer\, female-identifying photographers: Dru Donovan\, Melanie Flood\, and Tarrah Krajnak. Each artist employs performative methods to document their bodies and those of others\, reflecting on their relationships to social histories\, expectations\, and structures. \nMeet the Artists: \nMelanie Flood has used the camera as a tool for self-expression throughout her life. Her photographs\, spanning from childhood to the present\, explore her evolving femininity and critique gender constructs through a blend of vulnerability and playful experimentation. \nTarrah Krajnak reclaims the photographic medium’s masculine history through her Indigenous transracial adoptee experience. Her interrelated works use the body to reenact lost histories\, employing rituals and performances to create a continuous connection between her presence\, the work’s origins\, and its future. \nDru Donovan highlights the strength and ability of the female body in both athletes and caregivers. Her crisp black-and-white images juxtapose the force and endurance required for various actions\, emphasizing the interdependence and mutual responsibility inherent in these roles. \nMore information: https://sma.sou.edu/exhibitions/pacing-photographs-by-dru-donovan-melanie-flood-and-tarrah-krajnak/ \nImage: Dru Donovan\, Liberty Pose\, 2017\, Video loop\, 35 x 57 inches\, courtesy of the artist.

SUMMARY:Antidote to the Wounded Feminine Consciousness by Karen Tate
DESCRIPTION:Have you ever looked around and wondered why things are the way they are? If they could be different? Or ever were different than society and culture is today? Maybe you’ve whispered these thoughts to your trusted friends but didn’t dare voice them out loud. Or you didn’t know how to language or name these thoughts and questions you intuitively were thinking and feeling in your gut. \nIf you resonate with this or answered yes to any of the above questions\, trust me\, you’re not the only one. You’re an exception and not one of the sheeple blindly going along without giving thought to your quality of life and that of others in your personal orbit or in other parts of your local and global community – but maybe you want to know more\, or to know others’ thinking and feeling the same. \nJoin Karen Tate\, thought leader\, 7-times-published author\, speaker\, ordained non-denominational minister and host of the longest running Sacred Feminine podcast\, Voices of the Sacred Feminine\, as she discusses the “Antidote to the Wounded Feminine Consciousness.” Karen facilitates opportunities through her speaking\, writing and teaching to encourage inclusiveness\, partnership\, intellectual curiosity\, personal development and social justice. \nShe is a Caring Economy Conversation leader and Power of Partnership presenter. She’s been certified from Smith College in the Psychology of Political Activism: Women Changing the World and she can be seen in the docu-film\, Femme: Women Healing the World. She’s been named one of the Thirteen Most Influential Women in Goddess Spirituality and a Wisdom Keeper in the Women’s Spirituality Movement. Her body of work over the years\, along with reviews of her books from students\, peers\, and colleagues\, speak to her extensive leadership\, knowledge\, and expertise. Her most recently published book is titled Normalizing Abuse: A Commentary On the Culture of Pervasive Abuse\, and she’s just launched the e-book version of her previous book that had only been available in paperback\, the award-winning Walking An Ancient Path: Rebirthing Goddess on Planet Earth with a 20th Anniversary Epilogue. \nPresenter’s Website: https://www.karentate.net \nFREE ADMISSION – 1757 Ashland St.\, Ashland\, OR.
