SUMMARY:ART ON FIRST: An Artful Life\, Solo Exhibition John Palombo
DESCRIPTION:Currently featured at ART on FIRST are nature inspired paintings by John Palombo. His focus has always been on landscapes of Southern Oregon\, particularly Southeastern Oregon. When creating a composition\, John’s interest is to translate the magic that he sees in the world and in nature onto his surface. With this\, he hopes to inspire his viewers to find the same magic\, or something that is personal to just them. \nFor more information\, please visit www.artonfirstashland.com. \nMonday\, March 31 – Monday\, April 28\, 12:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. \nOpening Reception: Friday\, April 4\, 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

SUMMARY:Plot Twist: Improvised!
DESCRIPTION:“Plot Twist: Improvised!” is a performance where the story is in the hands of the audience and a spin of the wheel. \nThe audience chooses where the story begins and the improvisers spin it into a completely unscripted tale. But just when things seem to settle into place… we give the wheel of fate a whirl! An audience member will spin an actual wheel to determine a genre (out of five possibilities: noir\, rom com\, murder mystery\, sci fi\, or soap opera) that sets the tone for the rest of the story. The plot will spontaneously twist into one of the five genres selected as the players continue the story. The format was created by the co-artistic director of BATS Improv\, Karen Brelsford\, and performed for the first time on their stage in San Francisco earlier this year. This is an improv adventure\, where the story evolves in ways no one (including the improvisers) can predict. \nA culmination of an improvised genre workshop\, the shows will feature the spontaneous talents of Crystal Arnold\, Cody Christopherson\, Emmy Graham\, Daniel Jokelson\, Andrew Kramer\, Claudia Stevens\, Libby Sturgill\, and Rochelle Webster. Directed by Eve Smyth. \nThe audience can expect two\, 40-minute shows with two different plot twists\, with a short intermission in between.

SUMMARY:“The Fifth of November” A Dystopian Future History Sci-Fi Thriller with author Glenn Hill
DESCRIPTION:In the sprawling\, neon-lit dystopia of San Neo City\, the iron grip of Ion Murk’s United American Empire is unyielding. His greatest weapon\, The Everlasting Pulse\, controls everything—behavior\, thought\, and even memory. Resistance is futile\, and freedom is a forgotten dream for most. \nBut for Violet and León\, two young adults from very different backgrounds\, surrender is not an option. Violet is a brilliant hacker haunted by the loss of her scientist parents\, who vanished into the jaws of Ion Murk’s death machine. And León\, an experienced street fighter\, a former child of the elite sector of San Neo City who fell all the way to the poorest streets when his parents were dragged away one night. \nThis is the story of rebellion\, sacrifice\, and a fight against impossible odds. \nAs Murk’s empire grows\, his sinister ambitions reach beyond Earth\, ensnaring untold numbers in forced labor camps in the mines on Mars and transforming humanity itself into tools for his lust for eternal power and eternal life. Yet\, in the darkened alleys of Sector Seven and the abandoned tunnels of San Neo City\, a spark of defiance ignites. The rebels\, a ragtag collective of hackers\, fighters\, and dreamers\, refuse to bow to the tyrant’s rule. \nThe Fifth of November is a gripping tale of liberation and unity\, where diverse voices rise to overthrow an empire built on fear. It is a tribute to the indomitable human spirit\, weaving action\, emotion\, and resilience into a narrative that will stay with you long after the final page.

SUMMARY:Thursday Evening Calm Abiding Meditaion
DESCRIPTION:This meditation is common to many traditions of Buddhism. In this practice\, we rest our attention on a simple meditative support\, such as the breath. Instead of following thoughts and emotions as we usually do\, we release them and maintain our connection to the support. \n“From this practice\, we can experience a stable and calm mind. We learn to maintain and return to a sense of stillness\, no matter what our outer circumstances. The mind is relaxed\, alert and aware. The results of this practice are serenity\, freedom in the face of circumstances\, and ultimately Buddhahood.” \nFrom Meditation for Beginners\, by Bokar Rinpoche. \nTo attend Calm Abiding Meditation via Zoom\, email the office at OFFICE@KSCASHLAND.ORG to join the mailing list. \n
