SUMMARY:Why Natives? Seven Steps to Restoring Biodiversity in Your Yard
DESCRIPTION:Join JCLS and the Jackson County Master Gardeners for this presentation on native biodiversity! Planting native plants is crucial to ecosystem health and to preserving and protecting life on earth. Plant choice matters\, and choosing native plants helps to restore and ensure vital ecosystem services in our landscapes. Based on the work of Dr. Doug Tallamy\, this presentation outlines seven steps you can take to create healthy\, productive gardens\, and help save our disappearing pollinators and birds. \nLynn Kunstman began gardening with her parents in Lafayette\, California\, as a young child. She has a degree in Wildlife Management from Humboldt State University and\, after moving to Ashland in 1986\, obtained a Masters in Science Education from SOU. After teaching middle school special ed and science for 22 years\, she retired to Medford where she grows a huge vegetable garden\, harvesting and preserving food crops year round. She became a Master Gardener in 2012\, and a Master Food Preserver in 2013. Most recently her focus has been on gardening for wildlife and pollinators. Lynn is the Master Gardener Speaker on the weekly gardening show Garden for Life\, on Jefferson Public Radio. Her quarter acre lot in Medford is certified as a Monarch Way Station\, a Pollinator Garden\, and a Wildlife Habitat. In 2023 she was named Oregon State Master Gardener of the Year. She established and runs the native plants nursery at Jackson County Extension Campus.

SUMMARY:Chest Fever (The best of The Band)
DESCRIPTION:The stories\, legend and community of The Band live on through the passion and magic of Chest Fever\, newly embodied in the live performance and burning energy they bring to every stage. Officially approved by Robbie Robertson\, Chest Fever is comprised of keyboardist Jody Bagley\, guitarist Dan Cervantes\, and bassist Blake Dean of the San Diego Music Award winning rock band Mrs. Henry\, rounded out with organist/saxophonist Ben Pinnola\, and drummer Allan Ritter. \n“We set out from the get-go to interpret these songs rather than recreate or pay tribute” explains Bagley. Dean continues\, “Like Leonard Bernstein\, the goal is to bring to life compositions from one of the great catalogs in the history of music. We like to say at every show: “We are a band playing the Band’s music.” Our band is Mrs. Henry\, performing as Chest Fever. It’s like Bruce Wayne by day and Batman by night.”

Sean will share more about the theology and poetry of oneness. \nMonthly Theme: Loneliness \nAttend in person or watch live or recorded on our YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@roguevalleyunitarianuniver8871

SUMMARY:Words 2 Words\, The Autobiography of Juanita Jackson\, Portrait of a Sex Addict: a Discussion by the Author – Carmen
DESCRIPTION:WORDS 2 WORDS is gloriously inventive. Carmen has an original and rowdy roughneck style. \nWILD AND SEXY\, this romance is an audacious and hilarious view of a search for love in Los Angeles and New York in the 1990’s with a sensual and mesmerizing group of men: Bruno\, the beautiful French vampire\, Angelo\, the handsome Italian architect\, Firs\, the Dutch model\, Edmond\, the Spaniard with an alter-ego\, a green dragon named Bobo\, and Sam Tomahawk Running Light\, the gorgeous and essentially L.A. con artist. \nPRECISE AND FUNNY\, these sketches of handsome international playboys are provided by Juanita ‘Jack’ Jackson\, born of a Norse god and an Aztec princess. This is truly her autobiography\, the sexual confessions of a poet and a wordmonger.

SUMMARY:Thursday Evening Calm Abiding Meditaion
DESCRIPTION:This meditation is common to many traditions of Buddhism. In this practice\, we rest our attention on a simple meditative support\, such as the breath. Instead of following thoughts and emotions as we usually do\, we release them and maintain our connection to the support. \n“From this practice\, we can experience a stable and calm mind. We learn to maintain and return to a sense of stillness\, no matter what our outer circumstances. The mind is relaxed\, alert and aware. The results of this practice are serenity\, freedom in the face of circumstances\, and ultimately Buddhahood.” \nFrom Meditation for Beginners\, by Bokar Rinpoche. \nTo attend Calm Abiding Meditation via Zoom\, email the office at OFFICE@KSCASHLAND.ORG to join the mailing list. \n
