SUMMARY:Mama's Broke with The Resonant Rogues presented by the Ashland Folk Collective
DESCRIPTION:Mama’s Broke is a powerful duo that deliver a compelling performance with heart and raw energy. Although highly influenced by their Canadian roots\, Lisa and Amy are based out of nowhere and everywhere. \nTheir two strong voices blend to create haunting harmonies\, while they artfully juggle fiddle\, banjo\, guitar and mandolin\, and incorporate traditional dance and foot percussion into their performance. Their original -and often dark- compositions push the boundaries of tradition and the constraints of genre. Drawing from old-time\, Quebecois\, blues\, punk\, celtic\, balkan and doom metal\, they create a soundscape that is both familiar and new. \nThe Resonant Rogues \nThe Resonant Rogues’ dark Appalachian folk paints a picture of their lives in the mountains of Western North Carolina and on the road. Anchored by the songwriting duo of Sparrow (banjo\, accordion) and Keith Smith (guitar)\, they’ve traveled the byways and highways of America and crossed the oceans with instruments in tow. From riding freight trains to building their own homestead\, the pair are no strangers to blazing unconventional trails. \nThe Rogues just released a new album\, recorded in Nashville with renowned producer Andrija Tokic (Alabama Shakes\, Hurray for the Riff Raff)\, featuring guest appearances from Sierra Ferrell\, Benjamin Tod\, John James Tourville (Deslondes)\, and Jason Dea West.

SUMMARY:CHILDREN OF DARKNESS AND LIGHT: Lori Vallow\, Chad Daybell and the Story of a Murderous Faith by Lori Hellis
DESCRIPTION:In this gripping work of true crime\, a criminal lawyer takes readers inside the notorious Lori Vallow case and the devastating “doomsday murders.” \nA blonde beauty queen\, missing children\, six suspicious deaths\, and the twisted Mormon doomsday writings of her fifth husband are only the beginning of a tragic crime saga that gripped Americans and instigated frantic searches all over the country. \nIt all started when Lori Vallow met Chad Daybell at a doomsday prepper event. Their story grew like a wildfire that creates its own weather\, and what happened next will shock even the most experienced true crime reader. \nClinging to and manipulating one another\, Lori Vallow and Chad Daybell believed the return of Jesus Christ was imminent and that God had chosen them to lead the 144\,000 and usher in the new millennium. When the people closest to them began dying\, it became clear they would stop at nothing to be together and fulfill their mission. When the bodies of Lori’s missing children–J.J. and Tylee–were discovered in Chad’s backyard\, the strange and complex story of their fundamentalist Mormon beliefs were revealed in all their true horror. \nAuthor Lori Hellis\, a retired criminal lawyer\, had just moved to Arizona when news of J.J. and Tylee’s disappearance broke\, and there were reports about these missing children that linked them to a neighboring community. She began to follow the case closely\, trying to understand this perfect storm of people and circumstances that culminated in the death of innocents. In Children of Darkness and Light\, Hellis digs deep into the investigation\, trial\, and verdict to craft a haunting narrative that illuminates one of the most confounding crimes in recent memory. \nLori Hellis practiced criminal and family law in Bend\, Oregon until she retired from practice to devote time to writing. During her legal career\, Lori worked both as a prosecutor and a public defender representing adults and juveniles in criminal matters; she served twenty years in the Air National Guard and has been a passionate advocate for children\, victims of domestic violence\, and veterans. \nThursday October 3rd 7:00 to 8:oo pm

SUMMARY:October First Friday Art Show with Shanna Rose and Wear the Forest- Botanical Prints

SUMMARY:An Evening Celebrating the Music of Django Reinhardt w/ Jimmy Grant\, Sam Farthing\, and special guest
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an evening of beautiful melodies and swinging rhythms with a trio of some of America and Europe’s finest musicians\, playing in the style of Django Reinhardt and Stéphane Grappelli. The trio features Jimmy Grant (US) and Sam Farthing (US) on guitars\, Simon Planting (NL) on bass\, and a very special guest violinist from far away. Don’t miss this extraordinary musical experience! \nJimmy Grant: Jimmy Grant grew up in a Northern California household rich with musical influences. During his travels across the country with his dad’s bluegrass band\, he discovered the music of Django Reinhardt. Although his early musical landscape was shaped by Russian folk\, bluegrass\, Celtic\, and classical music\, he was irresistibly drawn to the vibrant sounds of Django Reinhardt from a young age. \nUnder the guidance of renowned guitarists Jim Nichols and Howard Alden\, Jimmy honed his craft\, blending influences from Bach\, Benny Goodman\, and Joe Pass into his unique style. His artistry has led him to perform alongside acclaimed musicians such as David Grisman\, Gonzalo Bergara\, Ludovic Beier\, Andreas Oberg\, Tim Kliphuis\, Paulus Schafer\, Robin Nolan\, Trio Dinicu\, Rhythm Future Quartet\, and the Hot Club of San Francisco. His performances have graced prestigious stages including Djangofest Northwest\, The Savannah Music Festival\, Nor Cal Jazz Festival\, and The New York Hot Jazz Festival\, as well as various venues throughout Europe. \nAs a passionate educator\, Jimmy has taught at colleges across the United States and has been a faculty member at the Django in June Festival in Massachusetts\, Grappelli-Django Camp in Holland\, and currently hosts his own “Camp Django” in Ashland\, OR. He shares his insights into gypsy jazz through contributions to “Gypsy Jazz Secrets Magazine.” Jimmy’s creative endeavors also include recording two albums under his own name\, participating in several jazz and rock albums\, and having his music featured in films and television. Notably\, his original composition “Insomnia” was a finalist in the John Lennon Songwriting Competition in the jazz category. \nSam Farthing: \nTwenty-one year old Baltimore guitarist\, composer\, and educator Sam Farthing has dedicated his life to the preservation of the traditions of gypsy jazz and swing. Beginning his musical journey as a classical guitarist\, Sam gravitated towards the music of Sinti swing guitarist Django Reinhardt\, and began immersing himself completely in the style. Over the last seven years\, Samuel has studied and performed with some of the world’s top gypsy jazz guitarists including Stochelo and Mozes Rosenberg\, Fapy Lafertin\, Tchavolo and Samson Schmitt and many others. Samuel has performed in some of the world’s most prestigious gypsy jazz festivals across the world including Django sur Lennon\, Djangofest Northwest\, Djangofest Mill Valley\, Django a Gogo\, Charm City Django Jazz Fest. \nSimon Planting: \nDutch double bassist Simon Planting lives near San Francisco\, but studied Classical bass with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and Jazz at the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam before embarking on a professional career. He has performed in concerts and festivals the world over\, and has compiled an impressive discography with artists like Mathilde Santing\, Fapy Lafertin\, Jimmy Rosenberg\, Stephane Wrembel\, and John Jorgenson. Simon Planting is the DjangoFest NW Artistic Director.

Be prepared to walk a block or two. *Vendors are not able to accept payments for other vendors – please pay for plants in the space they are in. * If paying in cash\, small bills are always appreciated. * If possible\, please bring boxes\, bins\, baskets\, or other containers to carry your plants. * Restroom facilities will not be available. * Helpful volunteers will be available to help with plant selection and to load out large purchases. * Vehicles will be able to access the area for pick up after purchase\, but bringing a cart to transport your purchases back to your car is a good idea. * Pollinator Project Rogue Valley will have merchandise for sale (native plant books\, bumble bee books\, t-shirts)\, and donations are always appreciated! * Visit our neighbors who will be open for business in Suite A: The Oregon Cheese Cave and Kohi Lu Cafe!

SUMMARY:Sunday Service: What’s Power Got to Do With It?
DESCRIPTION:Power is sometimes seen as a negative\, a part of a hierarchy that limits power to the top. But we also know about personal power and the concept of “power with” which is Rev. Sean’s commitment in ministry. We will begin our month-long exploration of power. \n“The key is to find the places where you are powerful\, where you are hopeful and where you have the opportunity to make a difference.” – Aidan Ricketts in The Activist’s Handbook \nAttend in person or watch live or recorded on our YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@roguevalleyunitarianuniver8871
