SUMMARY:Awakening through your Natural Rhythms: Breath\, Heartbeat and Spinal Fluid by Nando Raynolds
DESCRIPTION:Join Nando Raynolds for an exploration of how perceiving\, supporting\, and following the pre-existent natural flows of energy and sensation in the body can power up your experience of being alive! \nApply your mindfulness skills to deepen embodiment. We’ll examine the physiology that underlies these three rhythms and then move into the more experiential portion of the evening. We’ll also explore the rich spectrum from control to surrender and how your position in this spectrum impacts the contents of your awareness. \nIf there is a more powerful flow happening through you\, something that is more fundamental than your own egoic effort to control and stay safe\, how might that manifest? If it were possible to support\, follow and surrender to that flow\, how would one go about it? If the Tao exists\, how can one perceive and follow the Way? \nMy suggestion is that you look no further than your persistent organic rhythms. Might not your breath be the first and most obvious pathway? By building your understanding of what is already happening all the time in your body\, you will more easily perceive it. Then\, you can support and surrender to it. Doing so makes rapid and delightful changes in your subjective experience of the present moment. \nNando is a skillful and entertaining presenter\, well-known in the community for his years of dedication to supporting residents in their pursuit of well-being. \nNando Raynolds is a psychotherapist with a somatic mindfulness focus. He is also a long-time T’ai Chi and Qigong instructor and holds a 5th-degree blackbelt in Kenpo Karate. He’s been helping people live mindfully in their bodies for 40 years. \nHis focus in counseling is helping people manage their thinking\, feeling\, and behavior with skill and compassion to achieve their goals. Through explorations of breath\, posture\, movement\, and sound\, his students and clients learn to embody their positive changes with joy and surrender. Presenter’s Website: https://nando-r.com. \nFREE ADMISSION – 1757 Ashland St.\, Ashland\, OR. One mile west of I-5 Exit 14

SUMMARY:Introduction to Teaching at OLLI at Southern Oregon University Course
DESCRIPTION:In April 2024\, OLLI will hold a course dedicated to learning more about teaching at OLLI. Participants do not need to be a member of OLLI to participate in the course. \nThe course is not required in order to teach at OLLI\, but it will provide a lot of information that will be helpful in creating your OLLI course and completing your first course proposal form. \nHave you ever wondered what it would be like to teach an OLLI course yourself? This three-session course is designed to answer that question and to help you prepare a course. We’ll talk about OLLI demographics and the OLLI learner. You’ll hear from experienced instructors about teaching online and in the classroom\, and the art of lecturing and leading discussions. Seasoned instructors will also help you with your own course design during the final session. This course will be led by the OLLI Curriculum Committee and will include some distinguished guests. Join us to see how your dedication to lifelong learning can include the creative endeavor of course design and teaching. Join us to learn how sharing your passion can bring joy to yourself and others. \nThe facilitators of this course are the co-chairs of the Curriculum Committee\, Ginny Blankinship and Anne Coleman. Support for teaching this course also comes from committee members who specialize in technology or a specific curriculum area. Many of these are also OLLI instructors who love sharing their skills\, knowledge and enthusiasm with OLLI members\, and who look forward to sharing their teaching experience as well.

SUMMARY:One Night Pop-Up Exhibition: Miles Frode
DESCRIPTION:Art is a crucial part of our lives\, bringing our community together physically and culturally through its ability to share relatable stories\, inspire reflection\, and form connections through engaging conversations. \nWhen The Haines & Friends Visual Arts Grant Program temporarily acquired a vacant space in Downtown Ashland\, their goal was to do just this… Collaborate with local artists to utilize the space in a creative and meaningful way by providing them with a physical space to display and sell their artwork\, as well as enhance our visual arts community as a whole. \nMiles Frode has been painting for over thirty years. For Miles\, art is a verb. He prefers not to plan anything before painting\, and instead\, intuitively selects and mixes colors\, creating marks while dancing to music to experience a larger creative atmosphere. When forming a composition\, oftentimes\, Miles regularly rotates to different paintings\, purposefully allowing mistakes and covering previous compositions with new ones. Ultimately\, Miles’ intention is to create something that his viewers know is his because it all lives in one place where it sits with him\, between feelings that only Miles has about finished and unfinished paintings\, as well as what is comfortable and uncomfortable. \nCurated by Paige Gerhard\, this exhibition will function as a one night only pop-up exhibition during May First Friday Art Walk\, taking place on Friday\, May 3\, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at 88 North Main Street in Downtown Ashland. \nMore Information: www.hainesandfriends.org \nOne Night Pop-Up Exhibition:\nFriday\, May 3 (May First Friday Art Walk)\n5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. \nLocation:\n88 North Main Street\, Ashland\, Oregon

SUMMARY:Meet Artist Beth Yazhari During First Friday Art Walk \, May 3rd\, 5:00-7:30 pm
DESCRIPTION:Portland artist Beth Yazhari collects delicate fragments of antique lace and embroidery from different cultures and combines them into intricate compositions that reference both East and West. \nBy rescuing discarded doilies and pieces of folk embroidery and recycling them into her beaded paintings\, she intentionally collaborates with the creative spirit of women of the past. Her globally inspired pieces\, with their intricate symmetry\, painted “stitches\,” and richly layered fields of color\, take inspiration from Persian carpets\, quilts\, and abstract expressionist paintings. Her reconstruction of traditional articles of women’s handiwork\, particularly Victorian Era mourning veils\, symbolizes a release of female energy and capacity from historical constraints. \nBeth is the featured artist at the Fiber Arts Collective at 37 N. Third Street\, Ashland\, from May 3rd through June 29th\, 2024. She will be present to visit with the public during First Friday Art Walk\, May 3rd\, 5 to 7:30 p.m.

He’s toured the U.S. and internationally playing Jazz\, Rock\, and original music. He was one of the recipients of the Jazz Search West award in 2011 and has also been recognized by the Reno Jazz Festival for outstanding musicianship. \n“Issac Schwartz can rev up a drum solo!” – Downbeat Magazine \nHristo – Referred by the media as one of the newest and most innovative voices in modern jazz guitar and voted “Rising Star on Guitar” by DownBeat Magazine\, Hristo Vitchev’s music has been captivating audiences all across the globe.
