SUMMARY:Introduction to Teaching at OLLI at Southern Oregon University Course
DESCRIPTION:In April 2024\, OLLI will hold a course dedicated to learning more about teaching at OLLI. Participants do not need to be a member of OLLI to participate in the course. \nThe course is not required in order to teach at OLLI\, but it will provide a lot of information that will be helpful in creating your OLLI course and completing your first course proposal form. \nHave you ever wondered what it would be like to teach an OLLI course yourself? This three-session course is designed to answer that question and to help you prepare a course. We’ll talk about OLLI demographics and the OLLI learner. You’ll hear from experienced instructors about teaching online and in the classroom\, and the art of lecturing and leading discussions. Seasoned instructors will also help you with your own course design during the final session. This course will be led by the OLLI Curriculum Committee and will include some distinguished guests. Join us to see how your dedication to lifelong learning can include the creative endeavor of course design and teaching. Join us to learn how sharing your passion can bring joy to yourself and others. \nThe facilitators of this course are the co-chairs of the Curriculum Committee\, Ginny Blankinship and Anne Coleman. Support for teaching this course also comes from committee members who specialize in technology or a specific curriculum area. Many of these are also OLLI instructors who love sharing their skills\, knowledge and enthusiasm with OLLI members\, and who look forward to sharing their teaching experience as well.

SUMMARY:Duo Violão Brasil Plus One @ Grizzly Peak Winery
DESCRIPTION:Siskiyou Music Project welcomes for the first time in southern Oregon\, Duo Violão Brasil Plus One. This will be part of a residency partnership with Britt Education\, and the group will visit a number of schools while they’re in southern Oregon. The concert takes place at 7 p.m. Friday\, April 19 at Grizzly Peak Winery in Ashland. \nDuo Violão Brasil is the result of guitarists Rogério Souza and Edinho Gerber’s reverence for Brazilian guitar\, the “violão”\, and their desire to explore and expand the musical possibilities of putting two “violões” together. A master of both 6 and 7 string guitars\, Rogério Souza is one of the foremost representatives of the music of Rio de Janeiro. He is an award-winning composer and arranger who has worked with a veritable who’s who of Brazilian artists. Duo Violão is joined by pandeiro player and percussionist Ami Molinelli\, who records with Grupo Falso Baiano\, one of the leading American choro bands. With repertoire from composers like Pixinguinha\, Baden Powell\, and Tom Jobim\, they navigate effortlessly through the many styles of 20th century Brazilian popular music while showcasing original works and inventive arrangements.

SUMMARY:Turning down the heat: conversations across our ideological divides
DESCRIPTION:In our society\, which is currently deeply polarized on political (and other) grounds\, the barriers to discussion and conversation across our ideological divide can feel impossibly high. \nIs this sort of talk worth pursuing? How much effort should we invest in overcoming these barriers? If meaningful interactions can take place\, what would they be like? \nThe Jefferson Center invites members and guest to discuss this topic and related strategies from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday\, April 21\, at the Jefferson Center in the Old Ashland Armory. The event is free and open to the public. Bruce Borgerson\, who is active with the national organization Braver Angels\, and who will assume a statewide coordinator role in May\, will join us as an invited discussant.

He will also encourage you to venture deeper into your dynamic masculine energy. \nDirections: The ceremony is at the Island Fire Pit in Ashland’s scenic Lithia Park. SUMMARY:Debunking the Mythology of God and Sex by Rev. Stephanie Clarke
DESCRIPTION:By exposing the religious mythology and cultural programming around sexuality\, Rev. Steph will laying bare the naked truth about God\, sex\, sin\, and shame. In her humorous\, light-hearted style\, she will be answering questions such as: \n-Were Adam and Eve the perpetrators of Original Sin?\n-Was Mary\, mother of Jesus\, really a virgin?\n-Was Mary Magdalene really a hooker? \nRev. Steph’s intention is to get you out of bondage to your old beliefs about sex and set you free to enjoy the pleasures of the flesh without fear of guilt or punishment! Attend at your own risk…. \nRev. Stephanie Clarke is known as The Irreverent Reverend because she loves to expose the religious and cultural taboos around sexuality. \n“God & Sex” was the provocative title of Rev. Steph’s talk at the New Thought conference in Johannesburg in August 2017 – “Birthing the Divine Feminine – from History to HerStory” with keynote speakers Rev. Dr. Michael Beckwith\, and Lisa Nichols – of “The Secret” fame. \nIn 2000\, Rev. Steph founded “Soul Home” in Johannesburg\, the first New Thought multi-racial ministry in South Africa\, consciously dedicated to healing the wounds of Apartheid. Since January 2023\, she has been serving as a Staff Minister at CSL (Center for Spiritual Living) in the Rogue Valley\, Oregon\, USA. \nRev. Steph is the author of 3 books: “Down Dirty and Divine: A Spiritual Ride Through London’s Underground” (2012)\, “The Miss-Adventures of an Irreverent Reverend: A Spirit-ed Guide for Rebels and Renegades” (2016) – her autobiography\, and “The Sex Goddess: De-bunking the Mythology of God &; Sex.” (2018) – her latest\, most controversial work and intimate sharing of her personal experience. \nAs well as being a speaker and an author\, Rev. Steph is also a sacred ceremony facilitator and a Law of Attraction life-coach. In March 2020\, Rev. Steph moved to the USA from South Africa to live in sin with her American fiancé but made an honest man of him via their legal marriage in April 2021. \nPresenter’s Website: https://RevStephanieClarke.com \nFREE ADMISSION – 1757 Ashland St.\, Ashland\, OR. SUMMARY:Introduction to Teaching at OLLI at Southern Oregon University Course

SUMMARY:Waiting for the Kick- film with director Q&A
DESCRIPTION:As part of the Oregon Fringe Festival\, director Ilima Considine will be presenting her feature film musical\, Waiting for the Kick. \nOscar Wilde’s Salome is remade into a darkly comedic fever dream of a rock opera written and composed by the Ilima Considine of The Sexbots\, reset in an after hours club full of off-duty strippers\, bartenders\, and mountains of cocaine and John the Baptist is an autistic drug dealer. \nThis is a gay\, feminist retelling of Salome- retold not as a story of a man in power led astray by a teenage temptress\, but of a young girl caught in an impossible situation in a world where patriarchy forces women to objectify both themselves and others in order to survive. And yet\, in spite of everything\, young queer folk discover themselves and each other — irrepressible as dandelions growing out of a sidewalk. The 85-minute film will immediately be followed by a director Q&A.
