SUMMARY:Sunday Worship: Our Inspirations
DESCRIPTION:What are the inspirations of Unitarian Universalism? Who are our heroes and saints? What are our formative stories? What do we bring with us from other traditions and how do we keep learning as we hold onto our collective identity? \nDirect experiences of transcending mystery and wonder are primary sources of Unitarian Universalist inspiration. These experiences open our hearts\, renew our spirits\, and transform our lives. We draw upon\, and are inspired by\, sacred\, secular\, and scientific understandings that help us make meaning and live into our values. These sources ground us and sustain us in ordinary\, difficult\, and joyous times. \nAttend in person or watch live or recorded on our YouTube channel:\nhttps://www.youtube.com/@roguevalleyunitarianuniver8871

SUMMARY:Rogue World wassailing open rehearsals
DESCRIPTION:Have you ever wanted to sing for fun? Have you ever wanted to discover your singing voice? Rehearse with us for Rogue World Wassailing this Dec. 1 and 16! \nRehearsals are held 2 to 4 p.m. Saturdays\, Oct. 28 to Nov. 25\, at Aryze Hot Yoga Studio\, 330 Oak St.\, Ashland. \nRuth Hoffecker\, of Ashland School of Uncovering the Voice\, brings her two major passions together for this project: traditional folk songs that celebrate the turning of the seasons and creating a singing community where all people feel welcome. Folk traditions like Wassailing were born out of a time when all people sang as part of daily life. We invite you to come experience singing in community\, lifting each other up with our voices\, making a joyful noise! \nWe will meet for five weeks to learn winter\, Christmas\, New Year’s and traditional Wassailing songs. Each session will begin with gentle exercises to warm up our voices.\nWith music in our hearts and rhythms in our feet\, we will serenade the community\, first in two public street events\, and later going door to door offering blessings of health and happiness for the New Year. \nAll singing experience levels are welcome – including folks who have always thought ‘I can’t sing.’ \nAll ages are welcome. All voices are welcome. Participation levels of all types are welcome. (Singing everything\, singing just the choruses\, clapping along\, humming\, etc.) \nYou don’t have to attend every rehearsal. Attend as many or as few as you’d like. \nParticipation is free.

SUMMARY:What Show is This? Evolving Approaches to Designing Shakespeare
DESCRIPTION:Staging Shakespeare has evolved over time. From minimal props and costume pieces to extravagant visual feasts\, the way we approach designing Shakespeare’s plays says as much about the present as it might the past. \nAs we celebrate the 400th anniversary of the First Folio\, we reflect on approaches to staging Shakespeare’s plays and consider how changing design trends reflect the zeitgeist of the moment. \nSpeaker Tara A. Houston is a scenic designer\, DEI specialist\, and educator. Currently\, she is the Cultural and Community Liaison for Oregon Shakespeare Festival. Her work is rooted in better connecting OSF to folks in the Valley and beyond. Previously\, she was the Assistant Professor of Scenic Design at Louisiana State University as well as the Associate Dean for Diversity\, Equity\, and Inclusion for the College of Music and Dramatic Arts. She believes in community-based theatre that reflects the diverse lived experiences of people including those historically excluded from the arts. Her work as a scenic designer flourishes in collaborative environments that support intellectual and artistic risk taking. \nTara’s scenic design work has been featured at Actors Theatre of Louisville\, Cara Mía Theatre\, Children’s Theatre of Madison\, American Blues Theatre (Chicago)\, and others. She is on the Board of Directors of the United States Institute for Theatre Technology\, a member of the Guild of Scenic Artists\, and is on the Steering Committee for the Latinx Theatre Commons. Tara has played an active role as an organizing member for La Gente: The Latine/x Theatre Production and Design Network. She lives in Ashland with her muttly dog\, Obi and her partner.

SUMMARY:The Ancient Art of Shamanic Healing with Ernie Flores
DESCRIPTION:Join shamanic healing practitioner Ernie Flores in an exploration to discover modern tools for our health from the ancient art of shamanic healing. \nLearn about the mystical “shamanic journey” and how it works. Learn the benefits of meeting and engaging with your animal spirit guide. We will discuss how trauma can be healed through “soul retrieval” and ancestral lineage healing. These ancient techniques open up new avenues for healing\, which aren’t as easily accessible in traditional psychotherapy. Most people are unaware of what shamanic healing is about or have misconceived ideas about it. Learn about the shamanic core beliefs and how shamanism seeks to bring people into the “right relation” with the totality of life. \nAt the end of the presentation\, Ernie will open up sacred space with shamanic drumming and lead a short journey to experience the “Hollow Bone” exercise. This exercise is used to open your heart and clear your mind so that you can be open to hear spiritual guidance more clearly. It’s a tool used to get your analytical mind out of the way. \nErnie Flores has been living in the Rogue Valley for the past 23 years. He has a passion for being in nature\, music\, and spirituality. He is a student of life. \nErnie has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from UC Santa Barbara and a Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute. He has been supporting people with overcoming trauma\, depression\, anxiety\, relationship issues\, and substance use disorder for over 25 years in his work as a therapist. He has been studying shamanism his whole life. He wrote his master’s thesis on the healing qualities of altered states of consciousness\, which included shamanism. However\, it wasn’t until 2021 that he received his formal training on learning the core shamanic skills\, and this was a dream come true for him. His teacher is a world-renowned medicine woman\, and she has spent her life training with many indigenous elders\, learning the shamanic arts. She is devoted to teaching people the core foundational shamanic skills through an accredited shamanic practitioner certification program that she developed\, which Ernie graduated from. \nErnie is a shamanic practitioner and owner of Flores Shamanic Healing\, where he offers private sessions and workshops on shamanic healing. His goal is to offer folks an effective way to heal from trauma that is based on Earth-centered practices and tapping into our own internal healing resources. \nPresenter’s website: https://floresshamanichealing.com \nFREE ADMISSION – 1757 Ashland St.\, Ashland\, OR.
