SUMMARY:Losar\, the Tibetan New Year
DESCRIPTION:Tibetan New Year is celebrated in late February this year. To honor Losar\, we practice meditations of cutting through obstacles. This clears the energy of the old year\, to make space for a fresh start. \nOur Losar meditations are Mahakala\, a fierce expression of loving kindness and compassion\, followed by Chenrezig\, a peaceful expression of loving kindness and compassion. These companion practices offer a balance of methods to lift the suffering of beings. \nLama Pema and Lama Yeshe will lead the practices\, opening each with a short talk about Losar and the practices themselves. Mahakala will be done in chanted Tibetan with musical accompaniment; Condensed Chenrezig will be done in English\, with the text appearing on the Zoom screen. \nAll are welcome to attend either or both of the meditations. For those who attend in person\, you are invited to bring contributions of non-perishable foods to benefit the Talent Food Bank\, and also clothing and warm camping gear for the center’s “In the Warm” project. \nHybrid event\, open to all\, no registration required \nMay we all join in clearing obstacles from the past\, to welcome in a new year! \nMahakala (5 pm) and Chenrezig (6:15 pm) Meditations

SUMMARY:Sunday Service: Be Not Afraid
DESCRIPTION:The sentence most repeated in religious texts is “Be not afraid.” How do we set aside fear when asked or commanded to? What is the fear about and how do we counter it when we need or want to? What fears do we sometimes feel more out of habit than danger? What might we do to lessen our fear? \n“We can let fear rule our lives or we can become childlike with curiosity\, pushing our boundaries\, leaping out of our comfort zones\, and accepting what life puts before us. ” — Alan Watts \nMonthly Theme: Fear \nAttend in person or watch live or recorded on our YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@roguevalleyunitarianuniver8871

SUMMARY:Williams Plant Propagation Fair
DESCRIPTION:The perfect event to share cuttings of (labeled) fruit trees\, plant\, and seeds. \nThe main attraction is “making” a custom fruit tree. \nWhen you arrive\, there are many little white buckets with sticks in them. Each has a label with a description. Choose the variety you want\, grab a stick of it\, and label it with the blue tape and marker lying around. Then take that to the rootstock station and select the type of tree you want and purchase the appropriate rootstock for your planting site (3 to 5 dollars sliding scale). Now bring this material to the Grafting station where an expert will graft the scion onto the rootstock for you. Of course you can take scion home and graft it onto an existing tree you have. \nRuby from Faerie Road Farm will teach classes. 1pm Intro to Grafting\, an 2pm Dormant season fruit tree pruning.

SUMMARY:Ecosystems as Models for Restoring Our Economies (To a Sustainable State) a discussion with Author John Giordanengo
DESCRIPTION:Most of us have spent our lives trying to “save the environment” through individual actions—recycling\, shopping local\, supporting green companies. Or we are mired in seemingly endless social challenges like homelessness\, the growing wealth gap\, food insecurity\, and so many others. Meaningful change has been painfully slow. \nIn Ecosystems as Models for Restoring Our Economies (To a Sustainable State)\, John H. Giordanengo offers a fresh and engaging perspective on our most pressing social and environmental concerns\, and takes the most logical next step. With human stories and intriguing research\, he shows how we can learn from resilient\, adaptable\, and productive ecological systems to transform our economies to a sustainable state. \nDrawing on decades of experience in ecological restoration and business\, Giordanengo outlines the mysterious structure of a sustainable economy\, and the means by which all of us—politicians\, business leaders\, consumers—can take novel actions for real impact. From a focus on strengthening regional economies to regenerative agriculture to renewable energy\, he highlights practical strategies for those who care deeply about environmental and social issues\, while sustaining our economic needs.
