SUMMARY:Fantastic Cat with guest Fox and Bones presented by the Ashland Folk Collective
DESCRIPTION:Hailed by Rolling Stone as “the-supergroup-you-need-to-know\,” Fantastic Cat features the combined talents of four critically acclaimed singer/songwriters who joined forces to see what it would feel like to make 1/4th the money they were used to. The band’s award-eligible 2022 debut\, The Very Best Of Fantastic Cat\, landed the instrument-swapping quartet their national television debut along with sold-out shows around the US and Europe\, while their 2024 follow-up\, Now That’s What I Call Fantastic Cat\, earned a cease-and-desist letter from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Also they’re all very young and handsome. \nFox and Bones \nScott Gilmore and Sarah Vitort are Fox and Bones—energetic offbeat folksters with a retro-tinged\, soul-stirring\, modern vintage bent. Fox and Bones’ fourth album titled “Long Time Honey” is a collaboration with esteemed songwriter Greg Holden and has received international acclaim for its upbeat and heartfelt songwriting with Americana Highways beaming Long Time Honey “should rightly be considered one of the best Americana albums of the year.” \nDoors 6:00pm | Show 7:00-10:00pm \n$25 online\, $30 at the door \nFry Family Farm will serve Wine & Beer | Rogue Food Unites serving food- Veggie/GF food option available. \nNo outside food or drinks! \nNo pets! \nBring your own seating!

SUMMARY:Songs of the PNW: Erika Lundahl and Kathryn Kavanagh at Elder Apothecary
DESCRIPTION:Join for a soulful evening of folks songs and stories from two enchanting acoustic songwriters of the Pacific Northwest. \nErika Lundahl is a heart-forward songwriter and community organizer for resilient hearts and resonant bodies. Based on Coast Salish land in Seattle\, Erika’s folk medicine roots in personal and collective histories of resilience\, dancing between shadow and light to seek futures of abundance\, possibility and healing. She is a low carbon touring musician\, traveling in her electric vehicle\, and is a community organizer working towards an all-electric future that honors the Earth. Her newest album “Messy\, Blessed Infinity” is an exuberant love letter to the world\, wrapped in notes that bend from energized folk rock to hushed spoken word poetry. Refracting like light through glass\, the album celebrates Pacific Northwest resistance movements like the Fairy Creek Blockade and efforts to breach the Snake River dams\, and then heads inward to embrace the soft animal body within\, exploring the self with songs of grief\, reckonings with intimacy\, heartbreak\, and self care. www.erikalundahl.com \nKathryn Kavanagh is a poet\, singer/songwriter\, and artist inspired by patterns in time and nature. She currently resides on the ancestral homelands of the Takelma\, Shasta\, and Latgawa peoples\, or what is otherwise known as Ashland\, Oregon. https://kathrynkavanagh.bandcamp.com

SUMMARY:A Conversation with Artist Wataru Sugiyama
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a conversation with local artist\, sculptor\, and ceramist Wataru Sugiyama on his life\, his creations\, and the joy to be found in art. \nWhen Sugiyama left an engineering career in Japan to pursue a Communications degree at SOU\, there was no way of knowing that a required art class would change everything. From then on\, his passion for creating art only grew. Sugiyama crafts his pieces in studios in Ashland and Phoenix\, but his art has received national attention–he was recently selected as one of 120 participants in the Smithsonian Craft Show in Washington D.C. His sculpture “Gift” can be found at the Gresham St. entrance of the Ashland Library\, welcoming all who enter.

SUMMARY:Mama's Broke with The Resonant Rogues presented by the Ashland Folk Collective
DESCRIPTION:Mama’s Broke is a powerful duo that deliver a compelling performance with heart and raw energy. Although highly influenced by their Canadian roots\, Lisa and Amy are based out of nowhere and everywhere. \nTheir two strong voices blend to create haunting harmonies\, while they artfully juggle fiddle\, banjo\, guitar and mandolin\, and incorporate traditional dance and foot percussion into their performance. Their original -and often dark- compositions push the boundaries of tradition and the constraints of genre. Drawing from old-time\, Quebecois\, blues\, punk\, celtic\, balkan and doom metal\, they create a soundscape that is both familiar and new. \nThe Resonant Rogues \nThe Resonant Rogues’ dark Appalachian folk paints a picture of their lives in the mountains of Western North Carolina and on the road. Anchored by the songwriting duo of Sparrow (banjo\, accordion) and Keith Smith (guitar)\, they’ve traveled the byways and highways of America and crossed the oceans with instruments in tow. From riding freight trains to building their own homestead\, the pair are no strangers to blazing unconventional trails. \nThe Rogues just released a new album\, recorded in Nashville with renowned producer Andrija Tokic (Alabama Shakes\, Hurray for the Riff Raff)\, featuring guest appearances from Sierra Ferrell\, Benjamin Tod\, John James Tourville (Deslondes)\, and Jason Dea West.

SUMMARY:CHILDREN OF DARKNESS AND LIGHT: Lori Vallow\, Chad Daybell and the Story of a Murderous Faith by Lori Hellis
DESCRIPTION:In this gripping work of true crime\, a criminal lawyer takes readers inside the notorious Lori Vallow case and the devastating “doomsday murders.” \nA blonde beauty queen\, missing children\, six suspicious deaths\, and the twisted Mormon doomsday writings of her fifth husband are only the beginning of a tragic crime saga that gripped Americans and instigated frantic searches all over the country. \nIt all started when Lori Vallow met Chad Daybell at a doomsday prepper event. Their story grew like a wildfire that creates its own weather\, and what happened next will shock even the most experienced true crime reader. \nClinging to and manipulating one another\, Lori Vallow and Chad Daybell believed the return of Jesus Christ was imminent and that God had chosen them to lead the 144\,000 and usher in the new millennium. When the people closest to them began dying\, it became clear they would stop at nothing to be together and fulfill their mission. When the bodies of Lori’s missing children–J.J. and Tylee–were discovered in Chad’s backyard\, the strange and complex story of their fundamentalist Mormon beliefs were revealed in all their true horror. \nAuthor Lori Hellis\, a retired criminal lawyer\, had just moved to Arizona when news of J.J. and Tylee’s disappearance broke\, and there were reports about these missing children that linked them to a neighboring community. She began to follow the case closely\, trying to understand this perfect storm of people and circumstances that culminated in the death of innocents. In Children of Darkness and Light\, Hellis digs deep into the investigation\, trial\, and verdict to craft a haunting narrative that illuminates one of the most confounding crimes in recent memory. \nLori Hellis practiced criminal and family law in Bend\, Oregon until she retired from practice to devote time to writing. During her legal career\, Lori worked both as a prosecutor and a public defender representing adults and juveniles in criminal matters; she served twenty years in the Air National Guard and has been a passionate advocate for children\, victims of domestic violence\, and veterans. \nThursday October 3rd 7:00 to 8:oo pm
