Green Cars of Lithia Motors will also offer drives and rides of electric vehicles. Registration is required.\n\n \n\nMore than 30 community organizations and businesses will host educational exhibits\, and live entertainment will be featured on The Farm’s Thalden Pavilion stage. Children attendees can bring their bicycle and participate in the “Bike Rodeo\,” where they will learn about bicycle safety while running a course.\n\n \n\nThere will also be a play zone for children at the nearby ScienceWorks Hands-On Museum plaza\, featuring chalk art and games. Inside\, the science facility will offer a “quiet zone” inside its geodesic dome. The space will feature earplugs\, snacks\, seating\, and quiet activities.\n\n \n\nAttendees are encouraged to walk\, bike\, skateboard\, or take public transit to the event. Phillips was born in Ben and moved to Ashland in 1999 to attend Southern Oregon University\, where he studied mathematics and physics. He is the CEO and president of DomeGuys\, which builds geodesic domes. He has two children attending Helman Elementary School\, and was recently part of the Ashland Elementary School Rebalancing Committee. \nRuby is a senior director of partnership for a regional community health organization. He previously served on the Career and Technology Education advisory board for the Warshoe County School District in northern Nevada\, and is a previous director for the ScienceWorks Hands-On Museum. He has two teenagers in Ashland schools. \nCandidates Toria Clason and Russell Hatch are running for position 5 on the board. Clason is a stay-at-home mother with five children in the Ashland School District. A resident of Ashland since 2014\, she has served as a Parent Teach Organization board member\, a classroom volunteer\, district Talent and Gifted committee representative\, and site council member. \nHatch is a professional coach and small business owner. He has three children in the district. Hatch has been an active volunteer and PTA member\, and offers self defense instruction at Ashland Middle School.

DESCRIPTION:The April SOCAN General meeting – our first in-person meeting since the COVID crisis – will feature members of the SOCAN Federal and State project team reporting on which legislative proposals are alive\, which are not\, and what climate-conscious Oregonians can do to help those proposals that deserve our support. \nAfter a hard-fought race for Governor in 2022\, a campaign in which she highlighted support for climate action\, Tina Kotek was triumphant against two candidates who both campaigned against climate action. Although the climate crisis is non-partisan\, the Democratic Party as a whole embraced climate action while the opposition campaigned against it. The 2023 Legislative session in Salem reflects this dichotomy. By late April\, we’ll know which proposals have a chance for passage\, and which have none; we will know which proposals are moving and could use rural Oregonian help\, and which are not. \nThe program will be held 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday\, April 25\, at the Medford library\, 205 S. Central Ave.\, Medford. There is no charge for attending.

SUMMARY:Oak Trees in the Monument - Friday Night Talk
DESCRIPTION:Come learn about the majestic and resilient oak trees of the Monument! Rich Fairbanks will be sharing a broad presentation on oak species\, habitat types\, and ecology –including relationships between plant\, fungi\, and animal species that rely on oaks – as well as fire ecology. He will also talk about the current work of the Klamath Siskiyou Oak Network and what you can do to help oaks. \nRich Fairbanks has a wealth of knowledge and interesting stories through his work with the U.S. Forest Service for 32 years in fire management\, planning\, and silviculture. He held various positions in the organization including Interagency Hotshot Crew Foreman\, Division Supervisor and ID Team leader for the Biscuit Fire Recovery Project. For five years\, he also worked for the California Fire Program of the Wilderness Society. Rich has a degree in forestry and holds a Master’s degree in planning. He currently owns a small forest management company. He and his wife live in the mixed conifer forest of the Applegate where they do a considerable amount of under burning. \nThe Friday Hike and Learn sessions will take place 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Ashland Food Co-op Community Classroom\, 300 N. Pioneer St.\, Ashland. The classroom is is one block toward downtown from the grocery store on N 1st Street. \nFriends of the Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument is a nonprofit organization\, and our mission is to support the protection\, restoration\, and conservation of the monument through service\, advocacy and education. Our Hike and Learn programs are designed to introduce the public to different topics and locations within the Monument. SUMMARY:Almeda fire open house event
DESCRIPTION:Residents’ experiences during the Almeda Fire are the subject of a new bilingual book and photo exhibit produced by the Talent Historical Society which will be unveiled during an open house from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday\, April 29\, at the Talent Historical Society Museum\, 105 N. Market St.\, Talent. \nThe book\, “Talent\, Oregon: The Almeda Fire\,” contains numerous articles\, interviews\, photos\, work by local artists and poems on the September 2020 disaster that destroyed thousands of structures and left three people dead. The collection\, which covers a wide range of emotions\, including heartbreak\, resilience\, anger\, and hope\, includes written material in both English and Spanish. \nFree historic tours of downtown Talent will also be available during the open house. The tours will run between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.

SUMMARY:Hanley Farm's annual Heritage Plant Sale
DESCRIPTION:The Southern Oregon Historical Society and Hanley Farm will host the farm’s annual Heritage Plant Sale from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday\, April 29\, and Sunday\, April 30\, at 1053 Hanley Road\, Central Point. Admission is free. \nMore than 40 varieties of heritage plants will be on sale\, including old favorites such as lilacs\, peonies\, iris\, and asters. Pollinator-friendly and native plants will be available\, too\, as will deer-resistant and drought-tolerant varieties. \nA special exhibit about women who have played important roles in local agriculture will also be featured.

SUMMARY:Sharing the Tools: Creative Collaboration for BIPOC Artists and Audiences
DESCRIPTION:In this workshop\, we’ll explore how collaboration across mediums and creative backgrounds can lead to innovative processes and expressions in our art and lives. Presenters Manya Yana and Gabriel Barrera will share their own creative practices as writer /poet\, visual artist\, social justice advocates\, and mentors for other BIPOC artists. Through writing and visual activities\, we will consider the impacts and importance of the collaborative process—from concept to creation—particularly for BIPOC artists and audiences. \nThis workshop is made possible in part by The Ford Family Foundation. \nPlease note that registration is limited to 25 participants. Free\, accessible parking is available. There is a Rogue Valley Transportation District Line 10 bus stop located roughly four blocks from the venue. \nThis workshop will consist of a mix of activities\, conversation\, and presentation. Seating will be available. There will be a 5- to 10-minute break between activities. Participants are encouraged to break as needed for their own comfort. Water and light snacks will be provided. \nAbout the presenters: \nGabriel Barrera is a visual artist living in Southern Oregon. He works in various mediums from traditional art methods to multimedia and graphics. The identity of his artwork is rooted in social justice\, advocacy\, and mentorship. Being influenced by his mother\, a school teacher\, and his father\, an artist/tool designer\, he has found his strength in merging his influences to produce his practice of Artivism. He has been practicing as an artist ever since his parents provided him with sketch pads and pencils when he was a child. Gabriel received a BFA from Pratt Institute in NYC. He has also been greatly influenced by his experience as a scenic artist\, with 20 years in the theater industry working for theaters such as South Coast Repertory\, Oregon Shakespeare Festival and numerous colleges in California\, Oregon and others. His experience and advocacy for social justice developed while working in theater. His ideology is heavily influenced by BIPOC women in the field. While developing as an artist\, he also developed as a mentor for BIPOC youth. Gabriel is considered an influencer and mentor among his community. He currently operates ScenicG\, a visual art and design company providing services in art/design\, workshops\, consultation\, facilitation and mentorship\, with his spouse\, Merilee. Gabriel is always available to mentor BIPOC youth and advocates for the leadership\, hiring and promotion of BIPOC artists in all fields of creativity. His vision is to create an art/performance space centered with social justice values to provide a creative outlet for himself\, colleagues\, collaborators\, mentors and mentees. Together we can advocate for the empowerment of BIPOC creatives! \nManya Yana is a chicana poet\, writer\, visual artist\, community organizer and mother creature. She has been published in: Ofrenda magazine\, We’Moon\, the Jefferson journal\, Main Squeeze\, and Essential Oil. She is the author of two chapbooks: Blue Corn\, Mixed Masa\, and the Occasional Magic Trick and a look of defiance.radiant. She is currently working on a series of interviews turned poems turned textiles titled\, Latina Geniuses are Everywhere. Manya received her MFA from Pacific Northwest College of Art.
