SUMMARY:Marty O’Reilly presented by the Ashland Folk Collective
DESCRIPTION:Marty’s voice is beautiful and unique\, his lyrics stark yet lush over gritty electrified guitar\, melding beautifully into genre-defying music within the vast definitions of Americana. One can hear an urgency and complexity in the songs\, expressing something elemental and perhaps contradictory: love and anger\, joy and pain\, real and imagined. \nThe live performance is at the core of Marty’s projects. On stage\, whether accompanied by a band\, or alone\, he enters a trance and the music is born again as something new every night. It’s what his followers call “magic”. He goes from raw gospel blues to cinematic epics\, from heavy driving grooves to delicately arranged folk songs. \nCalvin Arsenia is a singer\, songwriter\, and multi-instrumentalist hailing from Kansas City\, Missouri. He first gained widespread recognition for his soulful vocals and virtuosic classical harp playing\, which he often incorporates into his live performances. Arsenia’s music has been described as a blend of folk\, pop\, and R&B\, and he continues to use his gift of music to draw bridges of empathy between communities separated by race\, class\, gender\, or religion.

SUMMARY:This Wild Life: Heroines in the History of Botany 1650-1850 With author Lucretia Weems
DESCRIPTION:Lucretia Weems\, author of “The Wild Life: Heroines in the History of Botany 1650-1850\,” will be at Bloomsbury Books 7 to 8 p.m. Monday\, Sept. 11. \nFrom encounters with pirates and historic earthquakes to visits from the Queen\, the women in these pages led amazing lives. Each was a true heroine who contributed dramatically to plant knowledge before the word botany even existed. They explored\, collected and propagated plants alongside a large majority of men\, their endeavors often barely acknowledged and their names forgotten. \nAdventure\, courage\, intelligence and determination marked each life. Here are their stories\, that we may celebrate these women and their accomplishments.

SUMMARY:Change Your Breath\, Change Your Life with Nikki Clifton
DESCRIPTION:Are you stressed out and overwhelmed? Are you feeling stuck in your old patterns? Are past traumas weighing you down? In this presentation\, learn how to tap the power of your breath and create change in your body\, mind and spirit. \nBreathing is a fundamental aspect of our existence\, yet often overlooked as a powerful tool for upleveling physical\, mental and emotional health. It has been scientifically proven that changing your breath\, from simple self-care exercises to transformational guided journeys\, is a safe and effective way to help a variety of challenges and can be instrumental for stress & anxiety reduction\, immune function enhancement\, improving sleep quality\, changing limiting beliefs\, trauma release\, and expanding consciousness. \nLearn how ancient wisdom has combined with modern understanding to create a comprehensive and effective system that caters to individuals of all backgrounds and experiences. You will learn how to calculate your breath ‘score’ and go home with simple tricks and tips you can do at work\, while driving\, watching TV and even while sleeping\, to improve your health and well-being.\nNikki will introduce you to her exclusive offering of the revolutionary 9D Breath Experience\, the ‘silent disco’ of breathwork. These evolutionary 9D multi-dimensional sound journeys use somatic breathwork\, guided vocal coaching\, binaural beats\, solfeggio frequencies\, 432 Hz harmonic tuning\, isochronic brainwave tones\, subliminal hypnotic therapy\, and curated world-class music to tap into your deepest potential and unleash the boundless energy within. \nNikki Clifton’s adventuresome spirit has led her on a path with many twists and turns; from being a land surveyor and ski instructor in the Colorado Rocky Mountains\, to becoming a licensed acupuncturist and music festival/wellness conference producer. A slight left turn in her journey landed her at RVML as an event coordinator/manager in 2017. \nDuring the pandemic\, she picked up the book “Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself” by Dr. Joe Dispenza here at RVML\, which created another twist in her path. She dove into the work\, becoming an avid student and daily meditator. At her first Dr. Joe event in 2020\, she was reminded of the power of breathwork to transform lives\, which she was first introduced to about 20 years ago. She has since enjoyed doing breathwork with her meditations and doing guided journeys whenever possible. \nAlways seeking to become more healthy\, happy and whole and witnessing how breathwork is the fast track to change\, she spent the first half of 2023 getting certified as a Transformational Breath Coach and 9D Facilitator. Nikki is very grateful for the opportunity to help others with this powerful modality and excited to help change the world\, one breath at a time. \nPresenter’s website: www.CatalystBreathWorks.com \nFree admission. \n1757 Ashland St.\, Ashland; one mile west of I-5 Exit 14

SUMMARY:Windows in Time: Forest Creek? Where is Forest Creek?
DESCRIPTION:Forest Creek is a tributary of the Applegate River. From its origins to the confluence\, people have settled\, mined\, logged\, built barns and schools\, and buried their dead in the Log Town Cemetery. \nAnnice Black will tell a story of the neighbors who populated the places along the Creek. The talk will cover from the 1850s to current days\, including the geography; early settlers\, and economics of mining\, farming\, and logging. Her presentation includes photos of Forest Creek School\, mining on Forest Creek in the 1930s and early 40s\, and Mt. Isabelle Forest Fire Lookout. As autos sped up access to town\, the schools consolidated\, and Forest Creek changed from a farm community to a commuter community. \nThe monthly Windows in Time lunchtime lectures feature well-known writers and historians and bring alive the people\, values\, and events that shaped our southern Oregon heritage. Lectures are jointly sponsored by the Southern Oregon Historical Society (SOHS) and Jackson County Library Services.

SUMMARY:Grieving and Healing in the Outdoors of Oregon
DESCRIPTION:A one-hour presentation by outdoor and travel writer\, photographer\, and author Adam Sawyer. \nThrough a series of photos and essays\, Sawyer details how time spent in the outdoors of Oregon has aided in his recovery from not just addiction\, but the devastating loss of his life partner and home in early 2022. \nSharing personal insights and perspectives from time spent in places ranging from urban parks to the state’s grandest natural cathedrals\, Sawyer’s hope is to help reveal the redemptive and healing powers of Mother Nature\, and how we all benefit greatly from time spent outside\, wherever\, and in whatever capacity we choose.
