SUMMARY:Wreckless Strangers at Epic Ashland Summer Concert Series 2025
DESCRIPTION:On August 18\, the band brings their signature “Bay Area Gumbo” sound to Epic Ashland Summer Concert Series. \nWreckless Strangers have been making waves with recent milestones\, including an artist spotlight at the prestigious NAMM music trade show\, the release of their critically acclaimed EP Blue Sky Fantasy\, and a spot on Music Connection Magazine’s Hot 100 for 2024. Currently\, Wreckless Strangers are back in the studio\, working on their forthcoming new album. \nWreckless Strangers is a collective of friends and musicians carrying the torch for San Francisco’s grand rock ‘n’ roll tradition. Their unique stew of Bay Area Gumbo melds the contemporary blues stylings of Bonnie Raitt and Boz Scaggs; the songwriting sensibilities of Sons of Champlin and Fleetwood Mac; the swashbuckling Americana of the Lost Planet Airmen and Peter Rowan; and the funk of Sly Stone and Tower of Power with a dash of Grateful Dead and Jefferson Airplane for flavor and unpredictability. With soaring vocal harmonies and burning instrumental improvisation\, framed in concise and poignant original songwriting\, Wreckless Strangers seek to honor and carry forth the brand of free-spirited musical fun and adventure that defines the Bay Area. \nThe band features Amber Morris on lead vocals; David Noble on lead guitar\, lead vocals; Joshua Zucker on bass\, vocals; Mick Hellman on drums\, vocals; Rob Anderson on guitar\, vocals; and special guest keyboardists. Collectively\, members of Wreckless Strangers have worked with Miley Cyrus\, Peter Rowan\, Highway Wolf\, Ismay\, Boz Scaggs\, Fabulous Thunderbirds\, Olivia Wolf\, Laurie Lewis\, and more! Their latest EP\, “Blue Sky Fantasy\,” was produced by four-time Grammy award-winning engineer/producer Dave Way\, who has worked with renowned artists including Aretha Franklin\, Tracy Chapman\, Prince\, Stevie Wonder\, Michael Jackson\, Sheryl Crow\, and many more. Blue Sky Fantasy is a sonic adventure that showcases the band’s evolution with a cohesive blend of tracks that highlight their range and artistic growth. \nVisit WrecklessStrangers.com and follow the band on social media to catch the latest updates.

SUMMARY:The Fire of Love: a memoir with author Eli Jaxon-Bear
DESCRIPTION:In this intimate memoir\, spiritual teacher Eli Jaxon-Bear traces his journey from the toxic winds of Ground Zero to a cancer diagnosis that would transform his understanding of surrender and freedom. Through an affair that shattered his marriage\, the painful path to reconciliation\, and the crucible of illness\, he discovers that our deepest wounds contain our greatest wisdom. \nWhen a seemingly perfect thirty-year relationship unraveled\, Jaxon-Bear was forced to confront the subconscious layers beneath surface harmony. \n“We tell ourselves comments and stories about the other that we would never speak aloud\,” he writes\, revealing how relationships operate at multiple levels simultaneously. This hard-won insight arrived just before doctors told him a “ten-alarm fire” raged in his bones — a physical manifestation of emotional truth demanding to be faced. \nWith unflinching honesty\, Jaxon-Bear reveals how both relational crisis and cancer became two of his greatest teachers. His three-year death sentence transformed into an eighteen-year testament to the resilience of love and the mysterious ways of grace. His journey reminds us that transformation rarely arrives as we imagine it should —sometimes it comes as a toxic wind\, but always as an invitation to discover what in us is truly indestructible\, and how hearts blown open can find their way back to each other\, stronger at the broken places.

SUMMARY:Thursday Evening Calm Abiding Meditaion
DESCRIPTION:This meditation is common to many traditions of Buddhism. In this practice\, we rest our attention on a simple meditative support\, such as the breath. Instead of following thoughts and emotions as we usually do\, we release them and maintain our connection to the support. \n“From this practice\, we can experience a stable and calm mind. We learn to maintain and return to a sense of stillness\, no matter what our outer circumstances. The mind is relaxed\, alert and aware. The results of this practice are serenity\, freedom in the face of circumstances\, and ultimately Buddhahood.” \nFrom Meditation for Beginners\, by Bokar Rinpoche. \nTo attend Calm Abiding Meditation via Zoom\, email the office at OFFICE@KSCASHLAND.ORG to join the mailing list. \n

SUMMARY:Walk through Jacksonville History
DESCRIPTION:Jacksonville’s “Walk through History” tours are back! \nAt 10 a.m. every Saturday from May 24th through August 30th\, Historic Jacksonville\, Inc. will be offering one-hour guided walks through Jacksonville’s National Historic Landmark District\, the first on the West Coast! Participants will take a stroll through history\, visiting government and commercial buildings\, fraternal lodges\, and homes that capture the stories of the people who transformed a gold rush town into Southern Oregon’s 19th Century social\, governmental\, and commercial hub. They’ll learn how gambling money built a church; how the Civil War ended a successful mercantile partnership; how a saloon housed the county’s first museum; how fire reshaped the town; and how a railroad both destroyed the town and preserved it. \nWalking tours leave from Jacksonville’s New City Hall (the historic “Courthouse Square”) at 206 North 5th Street between West C and D streets and cover about one mile with multiple stops. Tours are FREE but donations are encouraged! All monies go towards the preservation and maintenance of Jacksonville’s historic buildings. \nFor individuals who prefer not to “stretch their legs\,” Historic Jacksonville’s website (https://www.historicjacksonville.org) offers numerous ways to explore Jacksonville virtually. These include multiple blogs about the town and its settlers along with three video tours that introduce viewers to Jacksonville’s Historic Landmark District\, its Historic Homes\, and its Pioneer Cemetery. \nHistoric Jacksonville\, Inc. invites you to forget the “names\, dates\, places\, and battles” version of history you may have been taught in school. HJI’s live and virtual tours are about “real history”—people and their stories. They are about life! \nAdditional information on “Walk through History” and other Historic Jacksonville\, Inc. tours is available at 541-245-3650; info@historicjacksonville.org; and www.historicjacksonville.org.

SUMMARY:Beekman Bank Museum tours
DESCRIPTION:You are invited to “Step Behind the Counter” of the oldest financial institution in the Pacific Northwest—Jacksonville’s 1863 Beekman Bank Museum—when Historic Jacksonville\, Inc. opens the museum for summer tours. \nEstablished as a “gold dust” office in 1856\, it was the first “bank” north of San Francisco. \nScheduled 2025 “banking hours” are 11am to 3 pm\, Saturdays and Sundays\, from May 24 through August 31. The Beekman Bank Museum is located at 110 W. California Street (the corner of California and North 3rd streets) in Jacksonville. Guests can interact with costumed docents sharing stories of late 19th Century banking practices\, gold shipping\, and handshake deals; step behind the counter and peer in drawers containing old checks\, stage schedules\, and paperwork; and enter the vault that stored millions in gold! \nVisitors can spend as much or as little time as they like—although we suggest they allow at least 30 minutes. Tours are FREE\, but donations are encouraged since all monies go towards the preservation and maintenance of this historic legacy! \nThe original bank was established in 1856 as a “gold dust” office. (If we’re factual\, it was a safe.) Cornelius Beekman had come to Jacksonville in 1854 as an express rider between Yreka and Jacksonville carrying newspaper\, mail\, parcels\, and gold over the Siskiyous. When his employer’s firm failed\, he established Jacksonville’s Beekman’s Express and his gold dust office. In 1863 he became Jacksonville’s Wells Fargo agent and constructed the Beekman Bank. \nDuring Jacksonville’s heyday as the governmental\, commercial\, and social hub of Southern Oregon in the late 1800s\, the Beekman’s Bank saw over $40 million in gold cross its counters—equivalent to over $1 billion today! The current 1863 structure is the only commercial wooden building on California Streeet to survive Jacksonville’s many fires. It has been preserved intact as a museum since Cornelius Beekman\, the wealthiest and most prominent of Jacksonville’s pioneers\, locked the doors in 1915. \nAdditional information is available at 541-245-3650; info@historicjacksonville.org; and www.historicjacksonville.org/behind-the-counter/.
