DESCRIPTION:Join the Ashland Food Co-op’s EDI team for a special screening of Farming While Black\, a powerful documentary featuring Leah Penniman\, co-founder of Soul Fire Farm\, at the Varsity Theatre\, located at 166 E Main St\, Ashland\, OR. \nThe film m delves into the historical challenges faced by Black farmers in the United States and highlights the efforts of a rising generation reclaiming land and reconnecting with their African agrarian roots. \nFarming While Black tells the story of Black farmers\, from the height of Black-owned farms at 14% in 1910 to less than 2% today. Leah Penniman\, along with fellow farmers and organizers\, is leading the charge in promoting sustainable agriculture and food justice while addressing the deep-rooted inequalities that continue to plague Black communities. Through her work with Soul Fire Farm\, Penniman and her team are empowering future generations of Black farmers and connecting them to their ancestral agricultural traditions that can heal both people and the planet.

The wives find he sent them identical letters and take revenge by playing tricks on Falstaff when he comes calling. Falstaff is boisterous\, lively\, cowardly\, funny\, and mischievous. She was a Resident Artist with the American Conservatory Theatre for 15 years\, where she served as a core faculty member and director in the MFA Program\, as well as the Young Conservatory Program\, and as the resident director of the main stage production of A Christmas Carol. Directing work at ACT includes MFA Productions of Fuente Ovejuna\, The Good Woman of Setzuan\, Sueno\, The Skin of Our Teeth\, Happy to Stand\, and Saved\, as well as the world premieres of Staying Wild and Home Front. Ms. Lozano served on the Theatre\, Dance and Performance Studies faculty at UC Berkeley as both a teacher of acting and as a director. Directing credits there include Tartuffe\, Curly Fries- a webisode series\, and Men on Boats. She is currently an Adjunct Faculty member at SOU\, teaching Acting. Other directing work includes The Comedy of Errors\, The Importance of Being Earnest (SPARC Theatre\, Livermore Shakespeare)\, The Caucasian Chalk Circle\, (St. Mary’s College)\, A One Man Show\, Orlando\, Drawer Boy and Welcome Home Jenny Sutter (Theatre First). Acting credits include work with California Shakespeare Theater where she was an Associate Artist\, A.C.T.\, Berkeley Repertory Theatre\, Center Rep\, and the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. Translation work includes Schiller’s Don Carlos\, which premiered in the 2018 New Strands Festival at ACT\, and Brecht’s The Caucasian Chalk Circle\, which premiered at the American Conservatory Theater in 2010.

Ms. Lozano served on the Theatre\, Dance and Performance Studies faculty at UC Berkeley as both a teacher of acting and as a director. Directing credits there include Tartuffe\, Curly Fries- a webisode series\, and Men on Boats. She is currently an Adjunct Faculty member at SOU\, teaching Acting. SUMMARY:Oregon Shakespeare Festival On The Radio: Changing Ashland and the Festival
DESCRIPTION:NBC radio aired an annual OSF broadcast starting in 1951. This began the Festival’s rise from a local theater to a national destination\, but in 1951 Ashland did not have the tourist infrastructure it has today. This talk explores the impact radio had on OSF and the town\, growing together until both were big enough to be sustained without the radio series. This talk celebrates OSF’s 90th anniversary season in 2025. \nMichael P. Jensen is a Shakespeare scholar of international reputation\, with over 100 published articles about William Shakespeare. He is the author of The Battle of the Bard: Shakespeare on U.S. Radio in 1937\, the first book about radio Shakespeare.

Prior to this appointment\, Dr. Gonzalez was previously the Assistant Director of Bands at the University of Wisconsin – Madison. Additionally\, he has taught conducting courses at Capital University Conservatory of Music (OH)\, served as Music Director of the Professional School Orchestra (OH)\, served as the director of the Middleton Symphony Orchestra’s Wind Octet (WI)\, taught music history at Hillsborough Community College (FL)\, and was a public-school educator in Florida and Colorado where he taught an array of courses at the middle and high school levels. \nHis current research centers around the body of works commissioned by Robert Boudreau for the American Wind Symphony Orchestra. In partnership with Editions Peters\, Alexander has created a critical edition of Eugène Bozza’s Children’s Overture and will create forthcoming editions of other works in this unique catalogue. Dr. Gonzalez received a Doctor of Musical Arts in Conducting from The Ohio State University\, where he studied with Dr. Russel Mikkelson. He holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education from the University of Florida and a Masters in Wind Conducting from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. Additionally\, Alexander is an active member in the National Association for Music Education\, the College Band Directors National Association\, the National Band Association\, the National Association for Music Education\, Phi Mu Alpha\, Kappa Kappa Psi\, and Tau Beta Sigma.

She was a Resident Artist with the American Conservatory Theatre for 15 years\, where she served as a core faculty member and director in the MFA Program\, as well as the Young Conservatory Program\, and as the resident director of the main stage production of A Christmas Carol. Directing work at ACT includes MFA Productions of Fuente Ovejuna\, The Good Woman of Setzuan\, Sueno\, The Skin of Our Teeth\, Happy to Stand\, and Saved\, as well as the world premieres of Staying Wild and Home Front. Ms. Lozano served on the Theatre\, Dance and Performance Studies faculty at UC Berkeley as both a teacher of acting and as a director. Directing credits there include Tartuffe\, Curly Fries- a webisode series\, and Men on Boats. She is currently an Adjunct Faculty member at SOU\, teaching Acting. Other directing work includes The Comedy of Errors\, The Importance of Being Earnest (SPARC Theatre\, Livermore Shakespeare)\, The Caucasian Chalk Circle\, (St. Mary’s College)\, A One Man Show\, Orlando\, Drawer Boy and Welcome Home Jenny Sutter (Theatre First). Acting credits include work with California Shakespeare Theater where she was an Associate Artist\, A.C.T.\, Berkeley Repertory Theatre\, Center Rep\, and the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. Translation work includes Schiller’s Don Carlos\, which premiered in the 2018 New Strands Festival at ACT\, and Brecht’s The Caucasian Chalk Circle\, which premiered at the American Conservatory Theater in 2010.

SUMMARY:SOU High School Honor Band - Free Concert!
DESCRIPTION:The Annual SOU Honor Band for high school bands will be held at SOU on Friday\, February 21 through Sunday\, February 23\, 2025 culminating in a FREE concert at 1:00pm on Sunday\, February 23rd at the SOU Music Recital Hall. The best high school bands from across the Pacific Northwest will come together for a day of learning and engagement and will perform together. Directed by Dr. Alexander Gonzalez. \nFree livestream: https://youtube.com/live/G280MJgJ1y0?feature=share \nThe SOU Music Department is beyond excited to welcome roughly 60 talented student musicians from all across the valley for a weekend of education\, community\, and marvelous music. The students will work from Friday through Sunday (a very short amount of time)\, to put on a concert of incredible wind band music. They will also be treated to our annual Spectrum Concert – a sampling of musical performances by the SOU collegiate music students.” – Alexander Gonzalez. \nHonor Band high school students representing Ashland\, Clackamas\, Henley\, Crater\, Grants Pass\, Hidden Valley\, Illinois Valley\, North and South Medford\, Phoenix\, Klamath Union\, Mazama\, Riddle\, Ridgeview\, Roseburg\, and Talent High Schools are recommended by their school band directors and have to apply for and are selected based on instrument\, experience\, and video auditions for the privilege of participating in the program. \nThe weekend will be spent rehearsing\, performing\, and attending classes. Music classes will be offered in conducting\, audio and music production\, film scoring\, drumming\, and mallet making\, all taught by SOU faculty. In addition to the musical training\, the high school students will have the opportunity to stay in the SOU dorms\, eat on campus\, and experience “a day in the life of a college music student.” \nOn Sunday\, February 23 at 1 p.m. the high school students will perform a free concert for their parents\, friends\, teachers\, and the community. SOU’s Music Department hosts the Honor Band annually\, to inspire high school students and provide them with a glimpse into auditioning\, studying\, and performing music at SOU. Similar festivals are also available for high school vocal and percussion students. “This festival will have a long-lasting impact on students\, directors\, and families who attended\, and we hope to see many of these high school students choose to pursue their degrees in music at SOU.” \n– Alexander Gonzalez.

Allow yourself to be lured into the dark and dangerous world of vile villains\, complex gadgets\, spy heroes\, high-stakes missions\, thugs\, fight scenes\, car chases\, evil lairs\, seductions and betrayals as the players create a spy mission – spontaneously. \nThe shows feature the spontaneous talents of Andrew Jordan\, Becky Kagan\, Daniel Jokelson\, Emmy Graham\, Libby Sturgill\, Mike Roberts\, and Rochelle Webster\, and is directed by Eve Smyth. \n“License to Improvise” has three performances only; Friday and Saturday\, February 21 and 22 at 7:00pm and Sunday\, February 23 at 3:00pm at The Bellview Grange\, 1050 Tolman Creek Rd in Ashland.
