SUMMARY:A Bee C’s of Pollinators
DESCRIPTION:Join JCLS and the Jackson County Master Gardeners to learn more about pollinators! This virtual presentation by Master Gardener will cover information about the incredible creatures that do so much for this planet and how to create an attractive\, sustainable\, and connected landscape for our native pollinators\, especially the bees. \nKristina moved to the Rogue Valley in 2012 and immediately became enamored with the region’s flora and fauna\, especially our pollinators. At the same time\, she began learning about the unprecedented decline of all pollinators and the associated implications for our food system and ecosystem. She and her husband turned their barren property in Ashland into a pollinator garden\, with many native plants and trees — but of course it’s never finished. Kristina loves talking about our native bees\, butterflies\, flies\, wasps\, beetles\, and hummingbirds\,  and connecting people to her dream that everyone’s yard or landscape will include a little or a lot of pollinator habitat\, even if it’s just a corner filled with California poppies. She is passionate about growing\, sharing\, and planting the native annuals\, perennials\, shrubs\, and trees that create the habitats that best support our region’s native pollinators\, and thus\, all the creatures that depend upon them. \nKristina led the effort for Ashland to become the fifth Bee City USA in 2015\, and continues to serve on the subcommittee. She also serves on the board of Beyond Toxics\, and is a member of the Native Plant Society of Oregon\, Siskiyou Chapter. Kristina is honored to serve as president and volunteer director of Pollinator Project Rogue Valley.

SUMMARY:Libby Gill reads and discusses her novel Malibu Summer
DESCRIPTION:Lose yourself in this enemies-to-lovers romance set on a sunny Malibu hillside. \nIvy Bauer is a young\, bright environmental scientist\, PhD candidate\, and inventor of a game-changing organic irrigation system. She’s on top of the world when\, suddenly\, her husband is killed in a biking accident. Needing space to grieve\, she takes a summer job as a gardener in Malibu. Conrad Reed is a wealthy Hollywood has-been who\, after the death of his young wife\, feels overwhelmed by the care of his rambunctious stepson Hudson\, massive beach estate\, and deteriorating career. Enter Ivy with her gig as gardener-for-the-summer\, who-he hopes-will help take at least one thing off his plate. But the bossy\, opinionated Ivy isn’t making things any easier for him. When she starts cutting back his late wife’s prized rose bushes to plant indigenous grasses\, sparks fly between these two uber-driven people-and not the good kind of sparks. It’s when Ivy finds the key to Hudson’s heart that Conrad’s own heart begins to melt as well. . . and then the sparks that fly are the ones that kindle the best kind of love affair. \nLibby Gill lives in Medford Oregon.

SUMMARY:Bridging Worlds: Ancient Insights and Modern Physics on Dreams and Reality by Jason Dobrowner
DESCRIPTION:Ancient cultures around the globe developed beliefs that dreams act as gateways to other realities and as vehicles for divine revelations. This talk explores how these cosmologies fit within modern scientific frameworks\, and how dreams can be used as guides to push our understanding of reality forward. \nIn this presentation we delve into various transcultural concepts from cultures in the ancient world\, including the Celtic Otherworld and Australian Dreamtime\, relating these to ideas found in modern physics in fields such as String Theory and Quantum Field Theory. We will also explore the biology behind dreaming and other trance states and speculate how these states may act as vehicles for tuning into other realities. \nThroughout this journey Jason will share personal experiences from lucid dreams on his journey in exploring these deep topics. \nJason Dobrowner is a dreamworker and lucid dream practitioner committed to awakening the world to the potential of dreams. He currently focuses on developing Empowered Dreaming\, an online platform that encourages people to bring about their highest potential through dreamwork. Jason was a career software developer and studied physics at University of California Santa Barbara. \nPresenter’s Website: https://EmpoweredDreaming.com \nFREE ADMISSION – 1757 Ashland St.\, Ashland\, OR. SUMMARY:ADVANCE BASE and KARIMA WALKER in concert
DESCRIPTION:Advance Base is the melancholic soft rock recording project of Chicago\, IL singer/songwriter Owen Ashworth (formerly of Casiotone for the Painfully Alone). \nUsing a two-handed arsenal of electric piano\, Omnichord\, samplers\, effect pedals\, and drum machines\, Ashworth builds minimalist\, heavy-hearted\, & nostalgia-obsessed ballads around his conversational baritone. The warm\, electronic sound of Advance Base has been described as “lo-fi\,” “depressed” & “weirdly uplifting.” “A Raymond Carver short story collection set to music by a Joan of Arc-era OMD” – MOJO Magazine \nTucson artist Karima Walker has long nurtured a duality within her work as a musician\, developing her own sonic language as a sound designer in tandem with her craft as a singer/songwriter. The polarity within her music has never been so articulately explored\, or imbued with as much intention\, as on her new album\, Waking the Dreaming Body. \n“With her uncanny Americana\, Walker’s experimental inclinations have allowed her to explore some previously un-plumbed liminal space on the horizon\, somewhere between sand and sky.” – Pitchfork \nBetween their SF and Portland shows\, join us for their intimate stop right here in Ashland.
