SUMMARY:Green Springs Mountain Loop Trail Sunrise Hike
DESCRIPTION:Join Ranger Meaghen O’Rourke on a lovely hike along Green Springs Mountain Loop trail. This generally easy 3-mile loop hike will take you through serene forestscapes and across mountain meadow areas. This will be an early morning hike with a focus on nature connection. The hike will give participants time to individually connect and reflect with our environment during our sit spot at the viewpoint as we watch the sun slowly become stronger over the valley. \nWe will meet at 6 a.m. at the Ashland Rite Aid\, 2341 Ashland St.\, and make our way into the Monument from there. Please bring water and snacks. The estimated event time is 3 to 4 hours. Hiking boots are recommended\, as there is steeper terrain with loose rock in portions of the trail. \nThe Friends of the Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument is a nonprofit organization\, and our mission is to support the protection\, restoration\, and conservation of the monument through service\, advocacy\, and education. Our programs are designed to introduce the public to different topics about and locations within the Monument. They are co-created with local scientists\, historians\, artists\, students\, and more.

SUMMARY:Reclaim Your Ancestry for Healing & Empowerment: A Journey to Old Ireland with Victoria Costello
DESCRIPTION:No matter how far we’ve wandered from our ancestral homelands and the nature-based spirituality of our distant ancestors\, we’re connected to those places\, peoples\, and beliefs in body\, mind\, and spirit. In this talk\, held 7 to 9 .m. Tuesday\, Aug. 29\, at 1757 Ashland St.\, Ashland\, Victoria Costello presents lessons she’s learned from a two decade-long journey to reckon with a century of family trauma by reclaiming the ancient wisdom of her Celtic ancestors. \nEvent admission is free. \nIt’s a story of discovery she tells in her autobiographical novel of visionary fiction\, “Orchid Child\,” about a voice-hearing teenager and his neuroscientist aunt who travel to the land of their ancestors in West Ireland\, where they witness the merging of the past\, present\, and future of their lineage. \nIn Victoria Costello’s presentation of lessons learned\, she begins with how each of us can locate the multigenerational wound we carry—often hiding behind our most dysfunctional behavior—as a starting place for healing. Other lessons incorporate insights from the science of epigenetics and extremely sensitive children\, aka ‘orchid children\,’ neurodiversity\, second sight and other means of divination as practiced by ancient and modern Druids. \nVictoria Costello is an Emmy Award-winning filmmaker\, a teacher of life writing at OLLI/SOU and WritingWorkshops.com\, and the author of a memoir\, “A Lethal Inheritance” (Prometheus Books/2012). Her science and parenting articles have appeared in Scientific American Mind\, Huffington Post and Psychology Today. \nPresenter’s Website: https://victoriacostelloauthor.com.

SUMMARY:First Friday: Judy Weiner Art Show + Silent Auction
DESCRIPTION:You’re invited to join KS Wild and Rogue Riverkeeper for a special First Friday art show and silent auction from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday\, Sept. 1\, at our office\, 562 “A” St.\, Ashland. \nThe show will feature the mystical works of the late Judy Weiner. Wine and refreshments will be provided. \nJudy’s paintings have been featured in numerous art shows\, and she has won awards for her oil paintings. Her series\, presented during our September First Friday\, entitled Ordinary Magic\, features lessons from our natural world. \nThese paintings are communications about Judy’s strong concern that we all need to look\, listen\, learn from\, and love 1) our earth’s exquisite critters who wish only to live in their natural habitat and who can teach us unconditional love\, and 2) the amazing array of Earth’s plants\, which feed\, clothe\, heal\, and afford us unending beauty. We must protect all of them from the now-growing threat of planetary destruction. They are the non-random\, elegantly designed treasures of our natural environment\, without which our human race cannot long survive. \nJudy’s pieces will be available for auction\, and 100% of the sales proceeds will be generously donated to KS Wild and Rogue Riverkeeper.

SUMMARY:The Hidden Enneagram: Exploring the Mysteries of the Symbol by Jennifer Joss\, Ph.D.
DESCRIPTION:Most people know the Enneagram as a personality typing system. But there is a great deal more hidden in the Symbol itself. \nJust as King Arthur’s Knights set out on their search for the Holy Grail (a symbol of the moral and spiritual evolution of the soul) at the place in the forest that was “darkest” for each of them\, the Enneagram of Personality helps us find that entry point. \nBut to make our way\, we need a map. And wouldn’t it be best if that map were one that has guided generations of heroes transformed by their efforts to heal the world? G.I. Gurdjieff\, the Turkish-Armenian mystic and teacher\, who introduced the Enneagram to the modern world in the early 1900s\, described it as a representation of universal laws\, related to the creation and evolution of life itself. Something like the fabled philosopher’s stone of Alchemy\, the laws can be used in the process of “building a soul.” This wisdom awaits in the Symbol\, veiled from view… unless and until we develop ourselves enough to understand it. \nWhen we see the Enneagram (and ourselves) as a whole system\, and the points more like parts of an archetypal pattern that exists in\, around\, and through us\, a startlingly clear guide for our individual work starts to emerge. This talk will introduce you to the ancient wisdom handed down in the Enneagram Symbol. Through the triangulation of science\, stories\, and spiritual wisdom\, we will explore whether\, indeed\, these are “universal” laws and how they might advance our efforts to evolve healing and greater unity in ourselves and in the world. \nDr. Jennifer Joss is a psychologist by training\, a coach and consultant by profession\, and a Hermetic philosopher at heart. She has been involved with the evolution of people and systems for 30 years\, in nonprofit and+ for-profit organizations\, across diverse industries. Jennifer integrates psychology and neuroscience\, systems dynamics\, and leadership development\, with the wisdom of spiritual and mythic traditions\, and inner technologies that have guided people for centuries. \nDr. Joss holds a Ph.D. in counseling psychology from Stanford’s School of Education and graduated from Harvard with high honors in psychology. As a certified Enneagram and Enneagram in Business professional\, she has used the Enneagram to help people and teams personalize learning and map transformation. Jennifer’s 30-year relationship with the Enneagram Symbol somehow lured her into a deep and life-changing exploration of its meaning which\, although still unfolding\, led to the 2023 book “The Enneagram Symbol: Mapping the Journey of Personal\, Social\, and Spiritual Evolution.” \nFree admission.
