SUMMARY:Andrew Marlin Stringband presented by the Ashland Folk Collective
DESCRIPTION:Andrew Marlin (of Watchhouse Band) is a songwriter and multi-instrumentalist based out of Chapel Hill\, NC. His latest solo record\, Phthalo Blue\, is out now! The album features all original music by Andrew\, recorded around one mic at The Tractor Shed in Goodlettsville\, TN. In addition to Marlin on mandolin\, the music showcases a slew of frequent collaborators\, including Stephanie Coleman (fiddle)\, Allison de Groot (banjo)\, Clint Mullican (bass)\, Josh Oliver (guitar)\, and Nat Smith (cello) – engineered by Sean Sullivan. \nAlong with this new release\, and his three previous instrumental collections (Fable & Fire\, Witching Hour and Buried in a Cape)\, Marlin has produced six albums of original works of American roots music with Watchhouse\, has formed the bluegrass group Mighty Poplar (with collaborators Critter Eldridge\, Greg Garrison\, Alex Hargreaves and Noam Pikelny) and regularly contributes instrumental performances to other artists and albums. He’s recently played mandolin on recordings for Zach Bryan\, Tyler Childers\, Plains\, Dead Tongues and Phil Cook. Marlin is also an in-demand producer\, and has produced albums for artists including Mipso\, Kate Rhudy\, Rachel Baiman and Ismay. \nOver the last decade\, he has toured with all three of his projects throughout the U.S and Europe and appeared on high profile programs such CBS This Morning’s Saturday Morning Sessions\, NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert\, and headlined sold-out notable rooms including the Ryman and Red Rocks. \nDoors 6:00pm | Show 7:00-10:00pm \n$30 online | $35 at the door

Livestream available: $35/household. \nTickets are $35/reserved seating\, $30 seniors and are available at https://sou.universitytickets.com \nABOUT THE ARTISTS: \nRenowned international concert pianist Dr. Alexander Tutunov and his special guest\, classically trained pianist turned anesthesiologist\, local Rogue Valley resident Dr. Brian Hall\, will perform a great mix of beloved romantic music on this special concert. \nAlexander Tutunov is widely recognized as one of the most outstanding virtuosos of the former Soviet Union. First Prize winner of the Belarusian National Piano Competition and winner of the Russian National Piano Competition. Tutunov’s playing was described by Soviet Culture\, Moscow\, as “exhilarating and inspired\, and which demonstrated a unique talent”. Dr. Tutunov maintains a busy performing schedule in Europe\, China\, Mexico\, and the United States as a recitalist\, soloist with orchestra\, and on radio and television. Dr. Tutunov is also in demand as an adjudicator for piano competitions. Alexander Tutunov now lives in Ashland\, where he is Professor of Piano and Artist in Residence at Southern Oregon University. \nDr. Brian Hall2015 Seattle International Piano Competition award winner Brian Hall lives in Medford\, Oregon with his wife and five children. He has worked as an anesthesiologist in Medford for over thirteen years. In addition\, he currently serves as the Chief of Staff at Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center. Before attending medical school at the University of Utah he completed a bachelors degree in piano performance at Brigham Young University\, where he studied with Dr. Paul Pollei. Brian’s wife Jill is also a musician\, and music plays an important role in their home. He believes music is vitally important for developing children into well-rounded adults. Brian was blessed to find a new piano mentor in Dr. Alexander Tutunov. Alexander’s incredible musical talents and great generosity were instrumental in Brian returning to the stage.
