SUMMARY:Experimental-sound matinee in SOU Meese Auditorium with Ruehlen/Trejo Duo (Tucson) & Voodoo Krewe (Ashland)
DESCRIPTION:Tucson\, AZ-based experimental project Ruehlen/Trejo Duo will be on their latest west coast tour in January ’25. \nInterdisciplinary artists Cecyl Ruehlen & Chelsey Lee Trejo perform long-form compositions with expanded instruments focused around slowly unfolding harmonic variations\, alternative tunings\, and textural devotion that veers towards topos\, or landscape\, rather than song. \nRuehlen will be utilizing his latest hand made sound object\, a “hexachimeric drone” of resonating\, multimodal strings and voicings\, while Trejo works with a combination of custom crafted\, bowed metal objects\, synthesis\, and field recordings. Their collaboration grows out of the traditions and present-edge of drone musics that spiral across desert communities throughout the world. Both artists are central performers and event/venue programmers within the Tucson underground/experimental music scene\, working with a variety of collaborators and projects. \nVoodoo Krewe is an Ashland collective inspired by the diverse musical traditions of New Orleans\, including jazz\, funk\, soul\, rhythm and blues\, and more. Formed by drummer/bandleader Matt Fleming and bassist Christian Gonzalez\, both anchors of the rhythm section arrived in Southern Oregon after playing professionally in other cities (Matt in Los Angeles and New Orleans\, and Christian in Washington\, D.C.). The two bonded over their shared love for jazz\, neo-soul\, and the seminal D’Angelo album\, Voodoo. Joined by D.C. native Kent Hayward on saxophone\, the trio is excited to open the performance. \n$10 at the door (cash or Venmo)\, FREE with SOU student ID. \nParking Map (slightly dated): https://inside.sou.edu/…/SOU_Parking_Map_2017_1G.pdf

SUMMARY:Love Always Wins: Author Talk with Joanie Lindenmeyer
DESCRIPTION:Joanie Lindenmeyer has achieved the great accomplishment of writing 3 books in two years – and a theme that spans all three of them is “Love Always Wins.” \nIn this presentation Lindenmeyer will touch on all 3 of her books\, but will be focusing mostly on her second book\, Joyously Free. This book aims to encourage LBGTQ+ people to find courage to live their truths\, and the book provides solid guidance for parents and allies to love and support individuals on their rainbow journeys. \nThis presentation will include readings\, discussions\, and a Q&A. At the end of the program patrons will be given the opportunity to purchase copies of Lindenmeyer’s works. Copies will also be available in the collection for checkout. Patrons will also leave with a sense of joy and positivity from Lindenmeyer’s infectious positive energy. \nJoanie Lindemeyer is 66 years young\, a former Sister of St. Joseph of Carondelet Catholic nun who is now an Episcopalian with St. Timothy’s. Joanie serves on the church vestry and in the local community in many ways that include speaking about and promoting LGBTQ+ inclusion.
