SUMMARY:Sunday Service: Getting Free Together
DESCRIPTION:The habit of individualism is taught as a core part of what makes a person strong and capable. But we are learning that individualism is not enough to support us as people or as a society. What happens when we put community first and really live into the wisdom of “none of us are free until all of us are free.” \nLed by Rev. Sean & Eli \nAttend in person or watch live or recorded on our YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@roguevalleyunitarianuniver8871

SUMMARY:A Conversation with Artist Wataru Sugiyama
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a conversation with local artist\, sculptor\, and ceramist Wataru Sugiyama on his life\, his creations\, and the joy to be found in art. \nWhen Sugiyama left an engineering career in Japan to pursue a Communications degree at SOU\, there was no way of knowing that a required art class would change everything. From then on\, his passion for creating art only grew. Sugiyama crafts his pieces in studios in Ashland and Phoenix\, but his art has received national attention–he was recently selected as one of 120 participants in the Smithsonian Craft Show in Washington D.C. His sculpture “Gift” can be found at the Gresham St. entrance of the Ashland Library\, welcoming all who enter.

SUMMARY:Mama's Broke with The Resonant Rogues presented by the Ashland Folk Collective
DESCRIPTION:Mama’s Broke is a powerful duo that deliver a compelling performance with heart and raw energy. Although highly influenced by their Canadian roots\, Lisa and Amy are based out of nowhere and everywhere. \nTheir two strong voices blend to create haunting harmonies\, while they artfully juggle fiddle\, banjo\, guitar and mandolin\, and incorporate traditional dance and foot percussion into their performance. Their original -and often dark- compositions push the boundaries of tradition and the constraints of genre. Drawing from old-time\, Quebecois\, blues\, punk\, celtic\, balkan and doom metal\, they create a soundscape that is both familiar and new. \nThe Resonant Rogues \nThe Resonant Rogues’ dark Appalachian folk paints a picture of their lives in the mountains of Western North Carolina and on the road. Anchored by the songwriting duo of Sparrow (banjo\, accordion) and Keith Smith (guitar)\, they’ve traveled the byways and highways of America and crossed the oceans with instruments in tow. From riding freight trains to building their own homestead\, the pair are no strangers to blazing unconventional trails. \nThe Rogues just released a new album\, recorded in Nashville with renowned producer Andrija Tokic (Alabama Shakes\, Hurray for the Riff Raff)\, featuring guest appearances from Sierra Ferrell\, Benjamin Tod\, John James Tourville (Deslondes)\, and Jason Dea West.
