DESCRIPTION:Southern Oregon University’s Schneider Museum of Art (SMA) is thrilled to announce its summer exhibition\, “PACING: Photographs by Dru Donovan\, Melanie Flood\, and Tarrah Krajnak.” \nThe exhibition will open at 5 p.m. on Thursday\, June 13\, and will be on view through August 10\, 2024. \nAbout the Exhibition: \nThe act of pacing involves moving forward in a measured\, rhythmic manner\, where each step is taken in consideration of the one before it. “PACING” explores this duality of ease and tension through the lens-based works of three midcareer\, female-identifying photographers: Dru Donovan\, Melanie Flood\, and Tarrah Krajnak. Each artist employs performative methods to document their bodies and those of others\, reflecting on their relationships to social histories\, expectations\, and structures. \nMeet the Artists: \nMelanie Flood has used the camera as a tool for self-expression throughout her life. Her photographs\, spanning from childhood to the present\, explore her evolving femininity and critique gender constructs through a blend of vulnerability and playful experimentation. \nTarrah Krajnak reclaims the photographic medium’s masculine history through her Indigenous transracial adoptee experience. Her interrelated works use the body to reenact lost histories\, employing rituals and performances to create a continuous connection between her presence\, the work’s origins\, and its future. \nDru Donovan highlights the strength and ability of the female body in both athletes and caregivers. SUMMARY:Oregon's proposed floating offshore wind project
DESCRIPTION:With Oregon’s goal of 100% clean electricity by 2040\, developing new renewable energy sources is critical\, and offshore wind is one of these potential sources. \nDr. Bill Gorham\, a member of the SOCAN board of directors\, will update us at the SOCAN general monthly meeting on the status of Oregon’s floating offshore wind effort. The meeting will be held 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday\, July 30\, at the Medford library\, 205 S. Central Ave.\, Medford. Dr. Gorham will also discuss concerns raised by tribes\, fishing groups\, and local residents\, and how those are being addressed. \nSOCAN meetings are free and open to the public.

SUMMARY:Brazilian Spiritual Healing and Mediumship by Helene Vala
DESCRIPTION:What if we are all natural mediums and it is the degree of sensitivity and development that determines how mediumship unfolds in one’s life? We will discuss what mediumship is and show how effective Brazilian spiritual healing practices are and how they can produce miraculous results. \nBrazilians use and benefit from their spiritual practices on an everyday basis – from African Orixas to Spiritist seances and spirit Doctors doing psychic surgeries\, they rely on mediumship to receive what they need. \nHelene first went to Brazil at her guide’s request and discovered various ways mediumship works and the type of miracles it can produce. Curious as to how these miracles came about\, she embarked on a journey to discover the basis for the phenomena and spent 11 years living in Brazil learning and training alongside the Brazilian mediums.
