SUMMARY:Beaver Scavenger Hunt
DESCRIPTION:In partnership with Project Beaver\, the Friends of Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument will be holding a Beaver Scavenger Hunt on Saturday\, June 1st. With the help of citizen-science volunteers\, we will walk creeks and streams throughout the Monument looking for beaver sign to find out where the beavers are and what they are doing. The baseline date gathered during this event will help inform the strategies used to increase beaver populations in the Monument. \nWe are looking for hardy folks who feel comfortable bushwhacking through vegetation and walking on uneven terrain in and along waterways for several hours. While this will be hard work\, you will get the opportunity to experience the Monument from a new\, beautiful perspective! Volunteers will work in groups of 3 – 4 people\, including a team leader. Team leaders will be responsible for recording data\, locating the survey site\, and carrying a first aid kit. If you are interested in being a team leader\, please answer yes to the question when registering. \nLunch\, a t-shirt\, and training will be provided. \nFor any questions or clarification\, please do not hesitate to reach out us at info@cascadesiskyou.org. \nThe Friends of Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument’s mission is to support the protection\, restoration and conservation of the Monument through service\, advocacy and education.

SUMMARY:Ranked Choice Voting Outreach Skills Training
DESCRIPTION:Ranked choice voting is on the ballot in Oregon this November\, and RepresentUs will be on the ground talking with voters all throughout 2024. If you’d like to join us in talking with others about ranked choice voting here in Southern Oregon\, this training is for you! \nCome learn about ranked choice and connect with other volunteers and our 2024 Oregon organizer while sharpening your outreach skills and hear about opportunities to talk with voters in the coming months. \nAbout ranked choice voting: \nRanked choice voting is a simple improvement to our elections that gives voters the option to rank candidates in order of preference: first choice\, second choice\, third choice\, and so on. If a candidate receives more than 50%\, they win – like any other election. If not\, the candidate with the fewest votes is defeated and ballots are instantly counted for a voter’s next choice until there’s a majority winner. \nRanked choice voting gives us more meaningful choices on our ballots and more power to vote for candidates we actually like\, and allows candidates to run without fear of splitting the vote. \nAbout RepresentUs: \nRepresentUs is a national non-partisan organization working to unite people across the political spectrum to pass laws to make sure that government addresses the needs of people\, not special interests. Learn more about us at represent.us.
