SUMMARY:Lama Sundays – Tonglen Meditation
DESCRIPTION:The foundational perspective of Tonglen practice is to consider all beings as our kin\, because we and all beings share the wish to be happy and avoid suffering. From that common perspective\, we aspire to utilize our natural great heart of compassion to relieve beings of suffering and bring them genuine happiness. \nThe guided Tonglen meditation begins with consideration and transformation of our own sufferings\, and moves us outward to encompass the reality of others’ situation. \nJoin in-person or via Zoom (hybrid). Please contact the office to receive our monthly emails and the Zoom link for this practice: OFFICE@KSCASHLAND.ORG \nHeld 9 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. Sunday\, Jan. 21\, Feb. 18\, March 24\, and April 21.

SUMMARY:POWer Up for 2024: If not us\, who? If not now\, when?
DESCRIPTION:Progressive Oregon Women (POW!) invites you to a house party from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday\, Jan. 21\, in Ashland\, featuring women in our community who have run for office\, as well as some who are currently holding office. \nWhile Oregon ranks second nationwide in the percentage of women in the state legislature—53 percent in 2023—female representation at county and local levels has yet to reach parity.\nIt is time for a change. \nConsidering running for office but aren’t sure where to start? Reluctant about the commitment and energy required\, but intrigued by the possibility? Wondering about the balance between the demands and the rewards? Wondering where and how to get the support and allies you’d need if you ran? Just curious? \nJoin us on Sunday\, Jan. 21 for answers to these questions and more—and why it is so important for women to run for local elected positions.\nEntertainment by The Holy Misfits. Wine\, non-alcoholic beverages and hors d’oeuvres. \nRegister at https://progressiveoregonwomen.com/pow-2024/ (location to be announced to registered attendees). Space is limited. Co-sponsored by Southern Oregon Women’s March. \nDonations are always appreciated: https://secure.actblue.com/donate/progressiveoregonwomen \n(Did you know that Oregon was the seventh state in the country to guarantee women the right to vote\, eight years before the Nineteenth Amendment passed in 1920 conferred suffrage to women nationwide? Or that in the Oregon city of Yoncalla\, women organized a stealth campaign and swept the city council in 1920; the sitting mayor was unseated by his wife?)
