DESCRIPTION:Join us for a weekend of Dharma talks and guided practice exploring the “Seven Point Cause-Effect Method\,” a time-honored\, organic process for nurturing bodhicitta\, the Brave Heart of Awakening. The Method is this: \n• Opening to kinship\n• Honoring kindness\n• Returning gratitude\n• Touching into affection\n• Kindling compassion\n• Exceptional resolve\n• Brave heart of awakening \nSupported by integrative practice\, the Buddha’s contemplative technology (comprised of the depth practice of listening\, contemplating\, and meditating)\, we will develop an accurate understanding of the method; discuss our doubts and aspirations with respect to its practice and efficacy; and engage in experiential analysis to plumb the depths of the Brave Heart of Awakening as it is\, here and now\, and yet to be. \nPractitioners will receive supplementary resources and will have ample opportunity to listen\, contemplate\, and meditate throughout our time together. This teaching is open to everyone. \nWeekend Schedule: Friday\, December 8 (5 – 6:30 p.m.)\nSaturday\, December 9 (10 a.m. – noon and 2 – 4 p.m.)\nSunday\, December 10 (8:30 – 9:30 a.m. and 10 a.m. – noon) \nKarma Yeshe Chödrön and Karma Zöpa Jigme are students of Kyabje Bokar Rinpoche\, and have been full-time practitioners of Tibetan Buddhism for over twenty years. Since 2005\, they have been teaching and translating Dharma texts and oral teachings from Tibetan to English for the Rigpe Dorje Institute for International Students at Pullahari Monastery in Nepal. In 2016\, they successfully completed the traditional Kagyu lineage three-year cloistered retreat at Vajra Vidya Retreat Center in Crestone\, Colorado\, under the auspices of Kyabje Thrangu Rinpoche. They are passionate about sharing traditional methods for transmitting experiential understanding of Buddhadharma with Western students through their international Dharma community\, Prajna Fire.

DESCRIPTION:This is a call to bring your family! Bring your friends! Bring your spark! And bring your Bike/ eBike! \nCommence the Winter Blues Cruise! It’s that time of year where everything gets dark early\, and it can be a little harder to stay motivated to ride. What better way than to get out with other people\, enjoy the beautiful Rogue Valley\, and meet up for some great food\, fun\, or both! This week I wanted to take you on a ride to Sweet Beet Station! \nRoute info! We’ll meet at Ashland Electric Bikes at 11:45 a.m. At noon we’ll go over some basic traffic and group riding rules\, do some call-and-response stretches to warm up (a good friend said that we’re not a group unless we do something cringey together!)\, and then we’ll ride out to the Bear Creek Greenway\, which will take us to Sweet Beet Station in Talent! The ride there is about 8.5 miles one way\, and it is mostly flat! We’ll be riding there and back. All who ride with us are encouraged to ride as a group\, however you are welcome to ride ahead\, behind\, join on the route\, or meet us there! \nThere will be 2 regroups: 1. at the Ashland Dog Park (relief room available\,) 2. Lynn Newbry Park in Talent (relief room available. *Note: This relief room was closed for our last ride. Here’s hoping it is open for this one!) Reverse regroups when heading back to Ashland! \n***Check out our meetup at the URL provided\, and please RSVP!*** \n***Important!\nBring money for food and beverage! And remember your bike lock! \nNote: This is a not an Ashland Electric Bikes event. The store owner has agreed to have the shop open\, on non-business days\, before and after our rides to allow folks a place to gather outside of the cold\, use the facilities and grab any last minute items they might have forgot. There will be a waiver that we ask everyone to sign making sure they acknowledge this point. \nThere is no Support And Gear (SAG) wagon! Please arrive with your protective gear\, as well as a tube(s)/pump/tools for the ride in case the ride goes awry! SUMMARY:Youth Symphony of Southern Oregon 2023 Chamber Music Series Concerts
DESCRIPTION:Youth Symphony of Southern Oregon (YSSO) ensembles will play chamber music at 2 p.m. Saturday\, Dec. 9 and at 2 p.m. Sunday\, Dec. 10. \nBoth performances will be presented at the First United Methodist Church of Ashland\, 175 N. Main Street. YSSO Chamber Music Series performances are free and open to the public. \nMusicians from the Youth Symphony\, the YSSO’s advanced-level symphony orchestra\, were selected to form duos\, trios\, quartets\, and small ensembles. The concerts will feature music by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart\, Joseph Haydn\, Franz Schubert\, and others. Accomplished young musicians from throughout the Rogue Valley will participate in the performances. \nThe Youth Symphony of Southern Oregon\, a nonprofit 501(3)(3) organization founded in 1988\, provides instrumental musicians with opportunities to expand their knowledge of music by learning and performing challenging and diverse repertoire. The YSSO organization offers performance opportunities and training under the leadership of a professional conductor and professional musicians\, and fosters lifelong appreciation of music. The concerts connect young people\, families\, and communities through music\, and engage hearts\, hands\, and minds. Participation in a music ensemble teaches people to listen\, develops discipline and empathy\, hones analytical skills\, and builds positive relationships. SUMMARY:Siskiyou Singers Holiday 2023 Concert: “Ancient Melodies”
DESCRIPTION:Join Siskiyou Singers for the holidays as we explore the origins of the music we’ve come to love during this special time of year\, along with contemporary interpretations of many other seasonal favorites. \nPerformances of “Ancient Melodies” will be at SOU’s Music Recital Hall in Ashland on Friday\, Dec. 8 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday\, Dec. 9 and 10\, at 3:00 p.m. General admission is $25 ($5 for students and Oregon Trail Card holders). Tickets are available from choir members\, at Music Coop or Paddington Station in Ashland\, online\, or at the door. \nThe first half of the program will begin with two Spanish villancicos (Christmas carols) from the 16th century. These sprightly pieces will contrast Rachmaninoff’s “Bogoroditse Devo\,” and “Videntes Stellam Magi” (“The Wise Men Saw the Star”) by Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina\, a spectacular telling of the story of the wise men written for two antiphonal choirs. \nWe will also perform contemporary settings of ancient texts\, including “O Magnum Mysterium” (“O Great Mystery”) by Morten Lauridsen. Also featured will be a neo-Renaissance piece by well-known local composer William Ashworth and a traditional black spiritual\, “See Dat Babe\,” in a great concert arrangement\, by Stacey Gibbs. \nIn the second half of the concert we will perform holiday favorites set in exciting ways\, including “The Holly and the Ivy” in a heart-warming setting by Alice Parker\, and jazz arrangements of “Let It Snow\,” “I’ll Be Home for Christmas\,” and “Winter Wonderland.” The program will end with a profound setting of “Silent Night” by Ivo Antognini and\, as always for our choir\, “We Wish You a Merry Christmas\,” as arranged by John Rutter. \nRogue Valley musicologist Ed Wight will present a free pre-concert lecture about the music one hour before the Dec. 8 and 10 performances. \nDon’t miss this exceptional holiday celebration!
