DESCRIPTION:Local historian and archeologist Jeff Lalande will discuss his new book\, “The Jackson County Rebellion” — a chronicle of a historic populist uprising during the Great Depression — at 5:30 p.m. Thursday\, Oct. 12\, at Southern Oregon University’s Hannon Library\, in the Meese Room\, according to a news release. \nThe talk\, hosted by Friends of the Hannon Library\, is free and open to the public. A Zoom link will also be available at https://hanlib.sou.edu/friends/lectureseries.html. \n\n\n\n\n\nLalande’s presentation will focus on a historic local event that national media took note of. It involved the theft of ballots at the hands of county officials\, resulting in a community response that eventually led to fatal violence. The Medford Mail Tribune\, a newspaper that closed in 2022 after more than 100 years of covering the Rogue Valley\, won a Pulitzer Prize for its coverage of the event. \n\n\n\nThere is metered parking for in-person attendees in parking lots 1\, 12\, 29\, 36\, 37\, and 41.
